The east loves to fantasize about splitting up US and the east firing up the wayback machine to 1983, while completely ignoring all the other employee groups which have been merged and will remain merged.

have all the AWA/US Air merger issues, labor stuff, et al, been worked out and overcome ?

One would think this is required before another merger, no ?

This isn't news, Parker has been repeating it for several years. He wants to merge US with AA, UA, or DL and if/when he can, he will.

That. He is trying to shake the tail and wag the dog.

Not even close! Mergers are a way for MBAs and lawyers to make money, which they make gobs of no matter what the outcome. "Profitability" and "synergies" are smokescreens for the common folk shareholders and employees so they will offer little resistance.

Nothing has changed from the Gordon Gecko Lorenzo era except the hamhandedness. Except now it is finessed so that all parties go willingly to the slaughter. It isn't the making of money that they are trying to achieve, it is the moving of money. The more that moves, the more they can skim through legal sleight of hand.

In the end, the new airline is left with left with less money, not more. Where did it go? Sorry, it's just the friction of business and the fog of war--and you should be happy to still have a job, you ungrateful bug, after all we did for you. And on to the next corporate victim.

Give that man a ceegar! He gets it. The AWA/USA merger was all about the payoff. Patch the hole in the Titanic, new paint, put some pop-guns on deck, send it off to fight the German navy at Jutland. By then the money guys are off chasing the next deal. These are the same back-room guys that come up with stuff like CDO's and speculate on oil futures. If they can make the numbers work it'll probably happen again. Whoever it is next time - you are in my prayers!

Sounds to me Doogie needs a drink......

He's pumping up the stock as he watches it wander like all airlines as oil goes up.

The mergers have to produce an obscenely profitable airline, which so far they haven't, in order to entice the money to pull off such a deal.

You have it wrong...mergers only have to produce obscenely large payout to the current executives and the top shareholders, everyone else can go to hell.

AA would smack down the eastholes.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^What he said^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I would imagine anyone that want's a part of LCC would piece out the east. Slots and planes would be worth a lot more, plus you get rid of the self absorbed east pilots, finally.
