I had an Army helo driver ask me a question today. He has his commercial/instrument rotorcraft FAA license that he obtained while serving. He obtained a civilian conversion. He also has an FAA fixed wing private license. He hasn't flown fixed wing in 3 years and was curious as to if his rotorcraft currency covered the fixed wing side as well. He is gonna fly with me to get current anyway but I was curious if his rotorcraft currency covers both or if he needs a BFR sign off. Any help would be appreciated.

Legally, he doesn't need a flight review for fixed-wing operations (61.56(d)).

A military check ride counts as a flight review, and a flight review in any category aircraft zeroes the flight review clock for all category aircraft a certificate holder is authorized to pilot.

It should go without saying that he will need to get current in category, class and type before hauling passengers (61.57(a)(1)(ii)), but I'll mention it anyway.
