I started out with a pair of Sigtronics, not sure what model (I'll check as I still have them). They worked great in pistons and they were comfortable as well. The mic was pretty good, the only thing I changed was I went to DC gel ear seals and it made a world of difference in comfort and noise protection from the stock plastic ones. They are pretty old and I still keep them handy for backups. As I recall they were the S-40 model but they may have changed since I bought them (going off memory here, I'll make sure).

Buying used gives me that icky feeling. Something about someone's mouth all over the mic boom is just wrong. No amount of cleaning is gonna get that outta my mind.

If your lookin for comfort the Telex Echelon model (~$100) is the best I have ever used. Of course they are not ANR but depending on what you fly you may not need ANR. I use them in the J3 and have no complaints what so ever. In the Shorts its a different story and I enjoy my Telex Stratus 50D but they will set you back around $700.
