Folks,

What's the best credit card out there for your "on-the-road" use? What are the winners for points, miles, low fees, customer service, etc? Which is better, points or miles - or both?

Also, which hotel loyalty cards have the best programs?

Thankns - AZT

if you could stay in only marriotts and use a marriott visa to pay for everything then "platinum for life" aint bad. :)

Hilton AMEX or Visa. When you stay at Hilton properties you get both Hilton points and airline miles as well. Once you make Diamond you can get a room anytime anywhere with 48 hours notice. Very useful in a profession that takes to very popular cities during peak travel times.

Hilton points, like most hotel points, can be used for airline travel as well.

I carry an AMEX Travel Rewards card. The annual fee is a little steep but it's worth the 30 days to pay, flexibility of point usage (airlines, hotels, gift certificates, to name a few) and American Express perks. If you call them they'll waive the first year's fee just to get you on board. The only downside is having to carry a M'card as a backup as not everyone takes American Express. Pardon the cliche. I use a low-limit, no-fee M'card maybe 3 times per month when AMEX is poo-poo'd by the merchant.

AMEX seems to be the going choice of cards - how often do you AMEX users get "declined" b/c it's not accepted?

Marriot - is this the hotel of choice due to the various "chain" hotels that Marriot owns and that accept the points?

Thanx for all the answers so far!

Occaisonally, but it is not an hinderence.....

Many merchants do not WANT to customers to use AMEX because of the higher fees. However, if they accept AMEX/VISA/MC they can't insist that you not use AMEX.

AMEX has credit cards and charge cards now. I use a credit card but pay it off each month. I run everything I can through it to get the points... including phone bills and 1.50 cups of coffee at SB.

Get an Amex credit card, they have a nice rewards program. I like Marriott Rewards the best, easy to use and a lot of great resorts to chose from.

Marriott is great but don't put anything on it unless you pay it off every month. Fourteen percent interest on the unpaid monthly balance--AND they try to tempt you to transfer balances over at low rates. The kicker is that the low interest balances get paid off first, leaving the 14% items on there forever.TC
