What is the benefit of using the same aircraft on different routes. For instance if the airline flies trans atlantic routes and trans pacific routes using the same aircraft type say a 747 -- why not fly the same planes over the Atlantic and the same over the pacific. I recall speaking to someone in dispatch/engineering who mentioned something about airframes.

Can anyone provide more insight into this.

What???

Are you asking why tail #xx would fly over both the Atlantic and Pacific instead of the same route (only Atlantic) all the time?

The same reason that you do not fly the same rental aircraft at a FBO just because you are flying north that day.

Holy crap....this place is turning into airliners.net
