I am trying to put together a proposal for a few flight schools that would have me lease back an Elite iGate to them. I know, as well as everyone in aviation, that the flight sim can save money for the student and provide revenue for flight schools on weather days.
What I need is some material that I can compile for the bank that shows that this is indeed true. Can anyone point me in the direction of articles, studies etc that can help me out?

Thanks

Google scholar works wonders :) (My notes are just from skimming the abstracts... you might want to actually read the papers)

Taylor, H.L.; Lintern, G.; Hulin, C.L.; Tauller, D.A.; Emanuel, T.W.; and S. Phillips. (1999) "Transfer of Training Effectiveness of a Personal Computer Aviaiton Training Device" International Journal of Aviaiton Psychology. 9(4):319-335.

Showed a 3.9hr savings in airplane usage when instrument students used as PCATD.

G. Lintern; Taylor, H.L.; Koonce, J.M; Kaiser, R.H.; and G. H. Morrison. (1997). "Transfer and Quasi-Transfer Effects of Scene Detail and Visual Augmentation in Landing Training" International Journal of Aviaition Psychology. 7(2):149-169.

Quoting from abstract: "The data also show that both visual and nonvisual training in the simulator build skills that enhance transfer."

Hays, R.T.; Jacobs, J.W.; Prince, C.; and E. Salas. (1992) "Flight Simulator Training Effectiveness: A Meta Analysis" Military Psychology. 4(2):63-74.

Quoting from abstract: "The major finding was that the use of simulators combined with aircraft training consistently produced improvements in training for jets compared to aircraft training only."

Machiarella, N.D.; Brady, T.; Arban, P.K. (2005). "High Fidelity Flight Training Devices in the Training of ab initio Flight Students" 24th Digital Avionics System Conference. 1:5.B.2-5.1.9.

(This citation may be a little screwed up)

Discusses use of fixed based wide angle of view simulator.

Williams, G.; Weeks, R.; and K. Lawrence. (2004). "Reconfigurable Flight Simulators in Modelling and Simulation." AIAA Modelling and Simulation Technologies Conference.

Discusses USAF use of simulators for cost savings.

Hope that helps... you should be able to get copies of the articles you want from your local library through interlibrary loan...

I'm not familiar with the Elite iGate.
