Still in the air

Thank you all for your in put. Talking with an accountant I can be a sole proprieter (sp?) and will be able to write off my mileage @ .36 cents a mile and some other things most people cannot write off. The employer is willing to pay me $250 a day for any days above the 2 days flying. And that would equate to 850 a week for only 4 days work but I would have to save to pay both my share and the employers share of all taxes since they will 1099 me at the end of the year. I am still up in the air, staying faithful to my self and praying plenty hopefully something will come along.

Be careful the toes you step on today, could be connected to the a$$ you kiss tomorrow.

hawker,

Be careful. It sounds like he wants you at his beck and call all the time. If that is the case, you can not work for anyone else. I have seen this before. If you are not on salary and do not get benefits. Then you are not beholding to him and should not be on call for him all the time.

In my area, un-typed F/Os are getting between 250 and 500 a day, depending on equipment.

I realize that 31K a year sounds like a lot. But remember that recurrent at FSI will run you at least 8K a year. Plus insurance. Plus taxes. And you will have to do quarterly reporting. And don't forget the cell phone and laptop computer and mileage. It adds up.

How about asking him.....

"If you send me to school and type me, I will promise you a solid year of work"

Now you can log PIC time, look for better work once you get some time, and bottom line......BE A SAFE PILOT

If him and his families safety take a back seat to the 10K involved insending a F'n pilot to FlightSafety, turn the F around and walk. He wont own a jet too long if he cant afford that.

You deserve the training, you might just be an instant PIC the day the Captain dies at FL 330.

Negociate

Hawker

I am recently furloughed and have a type in the HS-125. I called FSI at Wilmington and Simuflite. The cost of recurrent was $12K to $13.7K!!!

If I remember your story, you were an Mech for UPS and chased the flying dream. I would have the potential employer define in writing (get a basic contract) your job responsibilities and days per week/month for the minimum pay ($600). If there is a mechanism that would pay you more if you go on an extended trip and stay with the plane, etc.

Beware that they don't try to get you to do the maintenance for that price. Maybe work out a better pay rate if you offer maintenance services as well.

About the type, since you already have time in the Hawker, if you get the type, you can answer application questions, "How much time in type, etc. and start logging the PIC turbine. I have nearly 8000 hours, but only about 200 PIC turbine and that has hurt me in this environment in the job search.

Don't give away the store, but consider all your options and negociate.

Jeff

PS: If you hear of any other Hawker jobs, send me a PM. Good luck!
