bummer

The Aztec at the school I was looking at is 'down for extended maintenance' and unavailable.

That was the only reasonably priced, reasonably located twin at a school near where I'll be.

:(

In my opinion its always been about max. learning at max speed (through MEI) with min cost. So, that being said you can tackle the beast a number of ways. From my experience the least expensive way and the smoothest in terms of learning curves would be to stay in the single from pvt, inst., csel, cfi, to cfii. Then finish the cmel add on, and mei. If you take that path you will finish with 20-40 hrs of multi. You can take the money you save (6-7K) and get another rating, or take your family in the multi on a trip or… In other words you would be about 40 hrs shy of your estimate. Is that going to make a huge difference when you look for a job? I don’t think so. The multi time will come. The Lord loves those who wait (sorry I couldn’t resist).

The key is to train at a school that will hire you when you get your instructor ratings. Who gets the multi students varies greatly with each school.
Good luck with the move.

I did my training that way and it has worked out very well so far. I got my private in a single engine, then got my multi-engine add on in a seminole which only took me about 12 hours. Then I did my instrument in the seminole, and all of my cross country flights for my commercial in it as well. I am just about to take my check ride for my commercial and I have 260 hours, 130 of which are multi. If you can afford it, go for it. It will make it a lot easier when your a CFI, that way you aren't scavenging for multi students......

If I could give you my 3000+ hours of multi turbine and roll back the clock (never start this stupid career) I would. Give up now while your ahead.

Please take this advice!!!

LOL, considering this is coming from someone who can't even figure out *sex*, I'll take it with a grain of salt.

I'm straight, I'm a pilot and I would switch jobs if I was so pissed off at aviation!!

Atlanta has (I Think) an ALL-ATPS total twin program.....You might check them out...That Aztec could be down alot..Tha Seminoles flown by ALL_ATPS are in good shape and they always have a couple. You may be offered employment with them and you can log mucho Twin Time. That is the fastest way I know that anyone has made it to the Airlines...
Make sure you really wanna be an Airline Pilot, I am in my second furlough with my second Airline.
