Anyone have any experience maintaining a Duke? Looking at 1979 that looks like a good a/c for the money. What are the weak points and is the bad reputation deserved? Thanks.

Those Lycoming TIO-541 engines are very finickey on the care and feeding, and do not like any thing like shock cooling.

Exact same engines on the Chieftain Navajo, I think. TIO-540-J2BD.

Be damn careful, those Dukes will roll right on their back if given a chance. Lost a friend in one in Cheyenne Wyoming.

But they're beautiful, loud, and have a ramp presence that put's any other light twin to shame. Fly nice, too.

No the engines on the Duke are TIO-541's, not 540's. There is a big difference. They are close to the Pressurized Navajo, but those are geared (TIGO-541).
