Looks like the company dealing with "Wayside Professionals" is a step closer to fielding a civilian version of the C-17. I imagine they will try to buy the older C-17s from the AF...maybe a few or try to get a few new ones. Who knows! If this is up your alley, then you can apply to the job at http://www.waysidepro.com/

6/16/2005 FAR Part 121 Carrier Update:
Our client authorized the release of this aviation update with respect to the Part 121 Cargo Airlift Operation.</B>

“ Our business plan capitalizes on the load carrying capacity, efficiency and operational ease of the Boeing C-17/BC-17X airlifter. The delays we have experienced are due to the non-availability of C-17/BC-17X aircraft during contract negotiations between The Department of Air Force and Boeing. There is proposed language in the FY2006 Defense Authorization Bill (a PDF file, Subtitle D, Section 131, Page 13) which would permit us to obtain used USAF C-17 aircraft that we could employ in our commercial airlift operation which would greatly improve material logistics of private enterprises, lower taxpayer burden and provide employment to many commercial aviation professionals. It is in the best interest of the taxpayer, government, and commercial enterprises that this language be approved to speed the acquisition of these airlifters to enable us to begin to satisfy air freight cargo demands of the 21st century. This operation can be a success with our continued effort and the assistance of those aviators who would like to see an operation such as this materialize by urging congressmen and senators to support this use of pre-owned C-17/BC-17X airlifters.”

12/29/2005 FAR Part 121 Carrier Update: The United States Air Force announced their intent to accept the findings of the Mobility Capability Study. The result of this announcement means that the Air Force does not intend to purchase additional C-17 Globemaster Airlifters over the original order. This finding provides an opportunity for the potential purchase of aircraft. My client is proceeding accordingly.
