Any of you fellas know of good BBQ in the CVG area.

Up here for training and not in the mood to waste my time or money on lousey pig. Also, have no intention of eating that sauce on pasta they call chili..... but that's for a different thread.

And don't be tryin to highjack this thing to talk a PFT or something like that either!

Thanks a mill in advance.

Hehehehe.... I love it, you guys come straight to the Corporate Forum to look for good BBQ!

And some people think there isn't any intelligent life left on FlightInfo!

Montgomery Inn

This is the end-all be-all for BBQ in Cincy. Bob Hope used to be their spokesman. They aren't smoked, but other than that, it's awful hard to find better.

P.S. Let me know where you are staying. I'll try to give you some hints on other area restaurants.

Hey thanks.

Falcon Capt.,

Hey, I may not know what the "Abnormal BBQ Procedure" is.... but I know where to go to find it!

JayDub,

Thanks for the intel. I'm staying in Hebron, KY. (I'm not officially "North" if I don't cross the river since Kentucky was kind of a "swing state" in the Great War of Northern Aggression;^)

But I'm willing to drive a little for some good Q.

Thanks again.

While we're at it. Anyone know of good BBQ in Minneapolis?

AV8OR,

I should have guessed as much. I should have posted this to begin with. Barleycorn's

I believe I used to go to the Lakeside park location. Just take Dixie highway north from I-275 (about one or two exits past I71/I-75 as you go toward Ohio.) It's a pretty good local's hang-out that used to have some good food.

I have no idea if any of the restaurants at the Drawbridge Inn are still Open. They used to have a brewery there. It's a crew hotel so directions are not a big deal.

Also, ask anyone if Walt's hitching post is still around. They had some dang fine BBQ, but they had a fire so I don't know if they re-opened or not. They were just one or two exits past Dixie Highway on your way to Ohio.

Go to Main Strasse downtown Covington for some decent bars, but go with friends in case it takes a while for the real parties to start. Stay away from Newport, for the most part. Except, of course for right on River boat row. That's where you'll find Hooter's :D .

If you want an expensive meal, let me know. Some darn fine Italian north of the river, along with our Five Star restaurant.

Here is Walt'sWalt's

Here's a general listing for BBQ. City Beat

Most aren't worth your time, but ask somebody you trust. This should get you going. If all else fails, tag-along with your instructors. I have seen as many sim instructors that didn't know where to get good eats, as cops I know that have no clue on where to get good donuts:p .

Let me know if you have any questions.

How about the Hofbrauhaus in Newport? Just opened a couple of months ago and I've been there twice. This is the only one in the world other than the original in Munich. Great beer (of course) and great food. Most every night you'll find people dancing on the tables, too! Well worth the visit!

Huh? I have seen Hofbrauhaus's elsewhere?

The name is used by other restaurants (I believe it means only "main brewery"), but this is the only one that is authentic and recognized by Hofbrauhaus of Munich. The beer is brewed on site under license and supervision of Hofbrauhaus of Munich. Good stuff.

Ah, gotcha...

I highly recommend a trip to Munchën to visit the original...

Try Burbank's. Near the Drawbridge hotel in Covington. Good Brisket.

SK:cool:

I have never been to a Burbank's in KY, so it may be ok. I have, however, been dissapointed in the other Burbank's recently. They still make great corn bread (half carn bread mix, half cake mix), but their entrees are not what they used to be.

Make sure you issue a field report if you don't mind. Walt's and then Montgomery Inn should be the two best, but let me know if my info is dated.

Take care.

Hey thanks guys for the input. I'm going home this weekend, but when I get back Mon I'll give a couple of the suggestions a check.

Yall have a good weekend.

chili

hope somebody just didnt insult cinci chili. i could have that stuff for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. whenever yer feelin good and hungry . . .

Being a Southern California transplant to CVG since 1999, I can honestly say that the food in Cincinnati generaly sucks. The only place in town that is a "must try" is Graeters Ice Cream. The stuff is unbelievable.
Don't believe the hype about Skyline Chilli. Its not bad, but it ain't all that either. Do not waste your money on the ribs at the Montgomery Inn. You would do just as well with a McRib sandwich from the golden arches.
Best martini in town is either at the Havana Martini Club downtown, or the bar at the Celestial Restaurant (great food if you can afford it) in Mt. Adams.
