I gave them a call today hoping to ship a resume at the magical 1200 mark, but was told that 2000TT minimum was the norm. And prior van experience preferred. Guess not.
i was on a short furlough (3 weeks into the 3 months we were told by the #2 guy Wayne Heller ) from CHQ when they called me. I live about 40 minutes or so north of their HQ in Vichi. they wanted me to come down and talk. they were interested in me working out of memphis.
to answer the Q's, this is directly out of the mouth from the man in charge to me: (not a direct quote but the gist of it)
They want experienced freight pilots. No first timers. People that have done it before, know what to expect, and wont have any problems with the hours and the work because again, they know what to expect and have no problem doing it.
aparently the first timer freight pilot complains alot about being sleepy and this and that and are generally tiresome to deal and work with until they become seasoned by the job. from my experience it takes about a year and a half to two years. ...assuming youre in it for that long.
if you wnat to go to a place as a first timer with 1200 on the nose. these guys most likely wont hire you unless youre whats left out of the stack of resumes of already experienced freight-humpers.
try AirNow (UPS) and even Wiggins (FedEx) in the northeast for a caravan position. they are more likely to hire the first timer than a seasoned guy as they are more easy to train the way they want it done. plus the flying there is more demanding and of better experience than anything i found in the midwest. youll get your actual up there in no time.
Back in my Caravan flyin days, Barron was a Fedex feeder. Fedex required 2000 PIC just to get in the door for a Caravan job. And no, there is no flow through to Fedex.
