How will the military look at my bad credit? I have never filed bankrupcy before. I had some student loans which I defaulted at one time. They are in good standing now. I also had some unpaid credit card and medical bills too. I have paid 90% off this stuff off and trying to rebuild credit. How will this effect me getting into the military?

I was going to apply to the Marine Corps Active Duty. Then try AF reserve units. I ran up these bills like 7 years ago when I was 19 or 20 years old.

Just make sure all your debts are paid off (or at least paid down to a reasonable level) now. While past financial problems are looked at, they aren't as important as your current situation. Generally speaking, anything you do to improve your credit scores will help. Keep in mind that any future financial problems will be looked at as part of a pattern, and could result in losing your clearance or failing to have it renewed.

They are all paid off. Student loan is in good standing. And all the old bills have been paid. I realize now how important good credit is. I wont let that happen again.
