Like many pilots, I have a bad lower back. I am wondering if anyone out there knows of any seat cushions and back cushions that help out with all the sitting we do. Thanks in advance!

I used to put 3 Skymall magazines (with the pages intertwined) under the seat cushion on the CRJs. It solved my back problems completely. I was no longer sitting in a hole, so to speak. Just remember to take the magazines with you when you plane swap, other pilots won't like the firmness.

A good sporting goods shop will sell an inflatable kayak seat cusion. I have never used them but some say it works well. The good ones are the same type as the inflatable camping mattress and have the little notch for the yoke/kayak seat. The good news is you can deflate, roll it up, and stick it in your bag.

Somebody I flew with used some sort of a negative pressure inflatable back support. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it. When it wasn't used, it fit nicely into his flightbag.

Consider doing yoga style stretches too. I know I'm opening myself up to ridicule here :D for this, but I did the P90X workout and the yoga did amazing things for my lower back. So much so, that I no longer need to see a chiropractor for a degenerative lower disc in my back.
