Just a quick question: I signed up for a couple online classes a while back to defer my student loans. I was working full-time during that timeframe, and didn't actually do anything with the classes themselves. Should I list these on a background check as a school attended, or would they care? I'll be listing my actual university as a school, but a couple online classes at the local community college?

Thanks!

For me, this is a tough one to answer because I tend to over-analyze the whole background check thing I think.

Honestly, I would put any kind of educational background info that I could. Did you drop out? Fail the courses? Try to use common sense I guess. I recently was asked on a background form about flight schools I attended. The only one I listed was the 4 yr university I attended. Thats where I received all of my professional flight training. I didn't list the FBO that I obtained my private license at because in my opinion, that wasn't a flight school - it was private instruction from an individual that worked at the airport. I guess you just need to use your best judgment. They are going to find out whatever they want to. Just don't blatantly lie about anything. Be honest and concise. This probably doesn't help to much, but, thats what I have to offer.

List them trust me they won't care about your grades THEY WILL CARE IF YOU LIE!!!

The thing about background checks is that they (the company doing the background check) already have all the information from your past. That's why they are doing a background check. In fact, some airlines don't even ask to supply a history--they just do the check and see what comes up. Just explain the situation and be honest. They will know if you are lying. People make a much bigger deal about this than they need to. If what you are reporting isn't criminal activity, then you have nothing to worry about.
