FTI is advertising for a B737 Type Rating for $4995 (Limited Time)
But when I called there, I was told they don't start till Jan 07. So why are they advertising From December 1st 2006 to May 31st 2007?

Also I only know of HPA, so has anybody got a type from FTI? What would be better, going to HPA or FTI?

I don't know which is better, but unless you already have a job that requires a 737 type, you might want to think about it. Both my roommates got a 737 type to try for SWA. Neither of them got hired by SWA, and now they can't get on with other big companies.
One of them commented yesterday that getting a 737 type with no time in the airplane is like having a DUI on his record. He's interviewed with 4 companies since SWA and each one has had a major issue with his 737 type and hasn't hired him.
He's considering surrendering his 737 type to the FAA so that he won't have this problem any more...a waste of $8000.

Personally, I don't know why any company's interview board would refuse to hire somebody with a 737 type...since the pilots who already work for them could just as easily go buy a 737 type and interview at SWA too.
There is no guarantee for any employer unless they are willing to treat their pilots well and pay them well too.

I did the same thing -- I gambled on the type hoping it would lead to a job with SWA, and it didn't work out, at least on the first shot.

However, as a counterpoint to Daytonaflyer's stories, NetJets didn't even mention the type rating when they interviewed me, and they offered me a job the next day. So it's certainly not a deal-breaker; just be prepared to discuss it if it comes up.

I know yet another that bought the type and did not get the job @ SWA. ALl the more reason you should NEVER BUY YOUR OWN TYPE!
