NOT EVEN A WEEK AFTER THE CONTRACT SIGHNED!!!!!

Northwest Airlines and Mesaba Aviation Agree to Continue Operating Avro Regional Jets
Monday February 2, 6:00 pm ET

MINNEAPOLIS & ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2004--Mesaba Aviation, a subsidiary company of MAIR Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq:MAIR - News), announced today that Northwest Airlines has decided not to exercise the early termination clause in the Regional Jet Services Agreement covering Mesaba's Avro RJ85 aircraft. The early termination provision has now been removed from the Jet Agreement.
Northwest and Mesaba had agreed to extend the early termination period to Feb. 29, 2004, while Northwest studied the economics of the fleet. Mesaba had removed five Avros from its fleet over the past two months, at Northwest's request. Two Avros will return to scheduled service in April 2004 and the remaining three in June 2004.

"We are pleased with Northwest's decision," said John Spanjers, president and chief operating officer of Mesaba Aviation. "This is a favorable outcome for Mesaba, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Northwest."

You missed part of the quote from CEO John Spanjers...

"This was clearly a ploy from the start, " Spanjers continued. "Much like the purchase of Big Sky, we aimed to scare our pilots and it worked to an extent. Forcing the scope issue saved us millions. The Avros never were going anywhere."

Actually is was about 6 hours after the contract was signed. It came out on startribune.com friday night. Funny how NW works. Watch for the next annoucement of CRJ/ERJ's soon.

And it worked better than planned it appears!!!

Ironic???

You meant coincidental.

Just for reference:
i·ron·ic ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-rnk) also i·ron·i·cal (-rn-kl)
adj.
Characterized by or constituting irony.
Given to the use of irony. See Synonyms at sarcastic.
Poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended: madness, an ironic fate for such a clear thinker.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i·roni·cal·ly adv.
i·roni·cal·ness n.

Usage Note: The words ironic, irony, and ironically are sometimes used of events and circumstances that might better be described as simply “coincidental” or “improbable,” in that they suggest no particular lessons about human vanity or folly. Thus 78 percent of the Usage Panel rejects the use of ironically in the sentence In 1969 Susie moved from Ithaca to California where she met her husband-to-be, who, ironically, also came from upstate New York. Some Panelists noted that this particular usage might be acceptable if Susie had in fact moved to California in order to find a husband, in which case the story could be taken as exemplifying the folly of supposing that we can know what fate has in store for us. By contrast, 73 percent accepted the sentence Ironically, even as the government was fulminating against American policy, American jeans and videocassettes were the hottest items in the stalls of the market, where the incongruity can be seen as an example of human inconsistency.

call it what ever you want. I call it a eye opener. Congrats on your new contract hopefully verb usage and grammer were the top priorty in it. Have a nice day!
