Aviation Instructor's Handbook

Does anybody have any comments on how different the new version of this book is? I have bought the new Airplane Flying Handbook and the Instrument Flying Handbook. The first of those is not very good, and the instrument book is 1000 times better. I am currently without a job and looking to get my MEI and was wondering if the new AIH was necessary... Any comments would be appreciated.

It is pretty similar to the old one with the exception of pretty pictures. I haven't read either in their entirety though so I'm not sure.

They also have the new 2003 Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge online, the new Instrument Handbook, and others.

The new PHAK includes material they took out of the Flight Training Handbook when they made it the AFA. I still prefer the old FTH. The new PHAK is like twice as thick as the 1997 and oddly has performance data for 737s and 727s in it (!).

That's interesting about the PHAK. I completely agree about the old Flight Training Handbook. I still use it more than the new one, especially the last chapter (I think) with aerodynamics.

Got a friend who just came back from his initial CFI ride and the examiner was still asking questions out of the old books. Take that for what it's worth. Guess it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
