[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]I'm going to off to college soon, one more year of high school. I'm planning hopefully getting accepted to Embry-Riddle. I'm open to open colleges. I only have like a 3.1 G.P.A. so I do not know. I have no clue what I want to become, I'm thinking a aerospace engineer and working for the Air force, NASA or anywhere. That'll be awesome. But Eventhough I am above average on my math, I do not know if I will survive. ATC sounds cool too, ATCphil open that door for me.(thanks!!) But I have a slight speech impediment so there goes that one. A pilot will be another option, but pilots from what I hear is always getting laid off. I though about becoming a airplane mechanic, I really don't want to be in the heat working with my hands and Not so much my mind. I really could use some career help here. Anybody got any ideals? I can also fall back and become a male stripper, my second life dream. =)

You have like to fly to be a pilot. There is growing worldwide shortage of pilots and it is possible to make a decent living flying airplanes. But if you don't like flying airplanes it is a miserable career.

You could be a Aircraft Dispatcher, but you have to be 23 to get the license. If you go to ER, u can get it there.

PM me for more info if u like.

Sorry let me re-answer my thread. I would love to become a pilot(for $$) because I love flying, But I have heard that many of them get laid-off frequently.

There are many routes to a rewarding aviation career and I'm sure one will fit you well. The most difficult and most expensive too is the civilian route. You will have to be extremely driven and determined to make it to the majors. Another route is the military. The Air Force or Navy will take bright people with no flying experience and teach you to fly and when you finish your time you will be qualified and competitive for an airline job. The catch here is that you will need to get a college degree and finish a commissioning program prior to flight school. Your high school GPA probably will not get you into an academy, but I'm sure ROTC at many colleges (including ER I think) will be glad to give you a shot. I was not the brightest in high school or college (3.0 GPA in both), but I got an Air Force ROTC commission and flew heavies for 10 years. I separated a year ago and immediately got hired by FedEx, which offers the best pilot career out there right now.

I suggest you take a couple of flying lessons at your local airport and see how you like it. You will know if it is something you will want to do for the rest of you life. Being a pilot is a great career if you lay a good foundation and plan ahead. You have to be patient and flexible and in time it will offer many rewards.

PM me if you have any question. Best of luck to you.

If you want to be a pilot you have to read E. Gann's "Fate is the Hunter" and "Hostage to Fortue". These are pilot classics

Not true. Depends on the severity. I have a family member that is a controller with a slight studder. It disappears when he is working, but as soon as he isn't controlling planes is comes back. Wierd. It makes you realize that it is a mental thing as opposed to an actual voice limitation.
