Today at Alliance Airport (Dallas - FTW area) was an ATR with FedEx logo on it. What the meaning of that? And if Fedex has ATRs who is crewing those planes? Fedex pilots or contract pilots?

FedEx ATR's

FedEx bought 8 ATR 42-300s from Continental and took delivery of the first one on Jan 27, 2003. They are amoung the 350 or so "feeder" aircraft that FedEx uses to supply some of the smaller markets. The pilots are contract and not lineholders at FedEx Express. There is also a "corporate" flight department at FedEx that is another separate pilot group. They are used for executive travel and I'm told for emergency field replacement of crews/parts on occasion.

American Eagle also just sold 19 ATR-42s to FedEx, deliveries to begin in June and continue through December.
