atp written question

Got a Few questions to ask you people,
1. Im signed up for the american flyers groundschool written prep test for a chunk of change for this comming weekend
2.Im also signed up for the atp written at the atp flight training center in chicago.
3. They are both in the chicago area
4. the american flyers one is a two day test prep with an instructor
5. the atp prep is do it yourself memorization, the thing is that ive been studying for two weeks with my gliem cdrom program and have most of the answers done.
6. I need some feed back on both programs advice.

I can't really give feedback on either program that you are signed up for, but I just finished the Gleim ground school (internet access included with the ATP test prep program). Then I did a few of the Gleim practice tests and did great on the written.

I was looking for a short ground school like the two day you are signed up for, but couldn't find anything without travel. So I did Gleim ground school over two weeks (about 2 hrs / day) and took the test at a local CATs center.

Very thorough but tedious program.
 
Thanks for the reply, luckly i have family in chicago and its only a 4 hour drive from my home (toledo) so it wont be too bad, i think im gonna go with the atp test prep program because its cheaper and i already know 80% of the material

If you're not in a big rush to get it done, just study on your own. If you allready know 80% of the material just go take the test.

I did the 135 written. I took practice tests skipping all of the W&B and X/C planning problems. I was able to get 80-85s on the practice tests (getting the questions I skipped wrong). Went and took the test, just guessed on the W&B and IFR planning quetions and got an 80%. Total cost was the 90 fee and the cost of the book. $20-$30
 
I did the same thing with weight and balance questions and worked out to about 80 percent also.

ASA makes a computer study guide where you can take as many practice test as you like.
 
I'm working on my ATP written now. A fellow CFI and I decided the only reason to pay for a course would be 1. pass the test as painlessly as possible, 2. really learn the stuff. I don't know about Am Fliers, but it sounds like they really teach you the material. With ATP it's another quick fix deal, and it sounds like you already have that part done on your own. It doesn't sound like ATP would be worth your money because you're already 80% there. You'd be paying for 20%. Just stick to the self study programs. If Am Fliers is what think it is where they really teach the material, then that would be a good use of money, if that's what you want.
 
Yeah, i was going togo do the atp test prep, but i decied to just go with the gliem cd rom and study for a while. i didnt do so well on the preformance part of the test becuase i didnt study as hard as a should but a pass is a pass

Yea I didn't study the IFR planning or W&B at all.

Congrtats, its out of the way. Last FAA written test you'll ever have to take!
