Just wanted to double check, If I am going for a Type Rating I can combine the ATP and the Type Rating and do them both at once.
All ATP requirements met of course.

Thank you.

Higher Power Aviation?

Several schools offer such a program. I think the board concensus is that all type ratings being equal, a 737 TR would serve one best. That said, consider Higher Power Aviation in Dallas. They have a good rep -- search previous threads to confirm this. Going rate is approx $7400. You can can get a Workforce Investment Act grant (Texas Worksource) to cover $3500 of the cost. You can use other means to absorb some or all of the rest of the cost. HPA is VERY helpful in helping you find ways to help pay the cost. GI Bill, if you're a vet.

Good Luck

Yessir. Sure can.

The 737 type is an idea, but may not be that helpful to you at this stage of your career. If you want to do it in something smaller, Mike Pappas at Flight Crew Systems, Inc. offers a nice Citation program. I got my Citation type from Mike twelve years ago when he was Professional Airline Systems. I recommend him highly.

Good luck with your practical(s).

Do you have a job lined up that requires the type rating? Do you have any time in the type you are going for?

A Type Rating isn't a magic ticket to a job... and without time-in-type it is a waste of money (except the 737 type for SWA purposes)...

I love reading your posts. You always seem to have something pertinent to say. I do have a question tho - does Mike Pappas give you money each time you mention his program? If not you should strike a deal. After reading about him through one of your posts, I sent for his brochure. If I decide to get a type on my own, I think I will be using him.

only additional requirement for the ATP is an inflight engine shutdown and re-light.I did the same thing in the Lear.

ATP

Don't forget for those wanting to get an ATP, you can do it in a SEL fixed gear fixed prop, 45-60 minute ride, it was the easiest check ride I had ever flown, except for those ILS approaches, coming out of the old Navy with 2500 hours I had never flown a ILS apporach, but in short I mastered the migthy C-172. That way also you never have to take the written again. When I got my first type rating the ATP became a MEL ATP.

Thanx for your very kind comments. :)

No, I don't have a deal going with Mike. I was just so thoroughly delighted with my experience with him that I want to share it with others. He's a super guy and has plenty to say about the need to be a "super guy" in the business. Although I must agree with my friend and former examinee Falcon Capt. that a type won't do you much good unless you have time in type, I found the training to be a valuable and extremely enjoyable experience.

In fact, I worked out a deal with him to take a single-engine ATP practical the next day. Then during the next few years, I called Mike from time to time to receive his input on my (lack of) career progression. He has great deal of experience in the biz. Mike is a former Western Airlines pilot who was absorbed into Delta during that merger. Although he primarily gives Citation types, he is qualified in Lears, 727s and Hawkers, I believe. He is also a Twotter guru.

PM me if you want more details. With your experience you should have no trouble at all. Although I went to Mike Pappas 12½ years ago, I doubt that his routine has changed much.
