Just started studying for the ATP written and bought the Gleim book. There is a separate chapter for operating/performance data for each of the following aircraft: B-1900, DC-9, B737, B727. Should I study each of these chapter? Will the test randomly select questions from each of these chapters? Could I concievably get a question on each of the aircraft in the same test?

Thanks in advance

I ma currently studying for this test too. Hope to take it next week. From what I have been told, it is possible to get questions on all of those aircraft. However, everyone that I know who has taken the 135 test only had questions on the BE-1900, with some questions on the IFR enroute portion pertaining to larger transport aircraft. There were no questions from the larger transport aircraft sections.

Again, I am still yet to take the actual test. If anyone had other experiences with it, I hope that they will post a reply.

wxman,

If you could report on your experience relative to which A/C was questioned, I'd be appreciative. Of course I'll study all the A/C.

Thanks

Read your study guide, and you'll know the answer.

If you're taking the 135 ATP, you'll be asked questions regarding 135 regulations, and you'll be doing performance charts based on 135 aircraft, or aircraft closer to 135. If you're taking the 121 test, you'll be tested on larger aircraft such as the DC9.

AVBUG,

I have read the study guide and the only chapter Dr Gleim asks you to omit is either the 135 or 121 chapter, depending upon which test you will take. That leaves a chapter each for the A/C I listed in my original post. I understand that the test will be comprised mostly of B1900 but there are folks who tell me that some turbo jet questions will also be asked.

Thanks for your input.

Here is some info I passed out to buds after I took the test. I would say I had 1 BE1900 question, 2 737, 3-4 727 chart type performance questions.

Paste starts here:

I completed my ATP written about 3 weeks ago at ALL-ATPs in Pensacola. A friend of mine had given me the skulls up that the test was a handful doing the one day cram session. I agree. I studied for about 3-4 weeks off and on just to make sure...this reduced the stress and "oh sh_t" factor when you first see some of the questions the FAA asks.

Here's the deal. I bought a Gleim book with the entire ATP MQF in it (1500+ questions). The ALL-ATPs database has about 550 questions. There were NO questions on the test that weren't in the ALL ATPs database. The test is electronically generated.

There are some CG, and heavy (sorry I'm a fighter guy) aircraft performance questions and a few form 70 (flight planning) type questions...basicially you can memorize the answers for those....the good news I had only 2 CG questions, 1 form 70 (flight planning) question, and 2-3 hvy aircraft performance questions (uses charts).....the CG questions are a royal A__ PAIN (they all use slightly different formulas..very frustrating)...they are not worth studying...I spent too much time on those. You can miss 24 questions and pass.....study the text questions primarily...know how the do the pallet weight questions (easy)....scan through the IFR planning stuff and work through the civilian (sorry I'm military) HSI/RMI questions and you should be good to go.

I scored at 94, overkill...however...I've have heard FedEX looks at your Fex written score...so this type of prep/studying may payoff on that test too.

Remember, you turn in your ATP written score to the FE when you complete the practical so most companies don't see or ask for your wirtten score. A pass is a pass is a pass.

Good luck!

Part 121

Forgot to mention. I took the Part 121 version.

Test Experience

Alright..... I just finished taking the ATP Pt. 135 knowledge test. I am happy to report that I scored 91%!!!

As for the type of questions: there were no questions pertaining to the transport category jet aircraft. The only performance questions that I had pertained to the BE-1900 (W&B, takeoff dist., land dist., accelerate-stop, climb gradient, inop engine service ceiling, etc.). The flight plan questions were as a group pertaining to a single flight (1 question on ETE, 1 question on fuel used, 1 question on TAS required to cut 3 minutes off a leg time). Again, all of these questions pertained to the same flight.

SATCFI - I hope that this helps. Good Luck!!!
:D
