I am a military pilot current and qualified in the 737-200 and am wondering if there is a way to get an ATP from the FAA using my military checkride vs. paying someone to fly a little twin around a few times. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure, but you might want to also post this under Military also cause maybe someone who has done it will read it on there where they might miss it here. A lot of captains at my company are ex-military but not sure if they got their ATP when they upgraded or if they got it straight out of the military.

Call your local FSDO and they will be able to tell you what your options are.

Yeah, it's called take the ATP checkride. Look up, you'll see ATP's catchy little ad blinking at you like an annoying Vegas marquee. They've made a fortune for Mr. Dennis doing exactly what you are asking about.

The Navy's 3710 allows civilian FAA designated examiners to fly. That is how I ended up with my helo ATP. Not sure if the airforce does the same or not. I haven't looked through my mountain of regs closely enough yet. It basically comes down to if the EP who you are flying with has the designation or not. I can tell you for sure that there is no military competency when it comes to the ATP rating.
