I am planning to attend either ATP inc or Comair Academy. I would appreciate guidance and feedback on both schools and which school you experienced pilots would recommend.
Thanks
Go to ATP, it is a shorter career program and the price you pay will be much closer to the original quote than comair. comair will rape you with extra fees. Plus, ATP will hire you back as an instructor when you are done if you are not a complete screw up; however, with the current stagnation in the aviation pipeline I do not know if ATP needs any more instructors.
I notice you have zero time. That's ok but I believe ATP has a private pilot program in conjuction with their career pilot program . If you don't do that then you must meet specific requirements with time like private pilot cerification, about 85 hours totaltime, about 30 or so xc pic. I don't recall exact numbers but they do have certian criteria that you must meet before interviewing for the career pilot program. call em at 800-allatps.
I have crossed paths with many successful "graduates of ATP" and have met none from Comiar...infact I have never met anyone from Comair that ever got a job flying an RJ..most quit at some point.
Ummm...that's a little unfair and quite ignorant. Do you work at CMR? I know at least 100 grads who now fly RJ's, just from being at the academy for a brief time. ASA/ACA/CHQ/CMR/SKW/Mesaba/Mesa/COEX...
My vote goes for ATPs. I had a very good experience there with the career pilot program a few years ago. Went in with my private pilot's license and left 95 days later with all of my ratings, through my CFI, CFII, MEI, and about 120hrs of multi. Their program is very reasonably priced, which includes housing. PLus, you literally get to fly trips acros the country, coast to coast.
I could go on and on, but would definetly recommend ATPs over Comair, or any other flight school for that matter.
I agree, ATP is the way to go. A few years back I was in the same boat, Conair or ATP's . Luckily I chose ATP's, seven months after I left the ATP program I was in Houston trainning for COEX. Where as if I had gone to Conair Academy, I would probably have just been getting my commercial rating. Plus I probably ended up paying half the price I would have payed at CAA. ATP gets my vote.
I would advise you against going to CAA. I was a student and a graduate of the entire program and I was very disappointed with their program. I completed the INST/COMM/MULTI/CFI in about 7 months, which was considered above average. They like to hand out unsats on lessons like candy. Making a small mistake on a lesson can be an expensive one. While I was there I know of several Instructors that did not get hired at the airline. It is too expensive and too much B.S. that you must put up with. I opted not to take the Instructor Interview because of upper level politics and I am just simply not an A$$ Kisser. Do yourself a favor and go to ATP.
You're about to make a major decision that will have long term effects . . . . . . you don't want to spend more time, $$$ or energy to get to that right seat than is necessary.
As you consider the 2 schools (or more), my #1 question would be how many grads (specific number) have gone to the airlines since 9/11?; to exactly which airline(s)?
There are numbers of flight schools around that will get you your ratings. For me, the best chance at a job is what counts.
Hope this is helpful. Good Luck to you. And BTW, no I did not attend ATP or Comair.
