Do any corporates help you you get this rating financially speaking, or are you on your own?

If they will send you to school to get a type rating, you can get your ATP on the same check ride. You just need to have your written test done.

My first and second employers hired me without an ATP; the first typed me in a Citation before I had the hours, and the second sent me to FSI for my ATP/type on the Citation as part of a severance package. Current employer just recently hired a F/O without an ATP, but he got his ATP with initial right out the box with us.

All were/are Fortune 100 corporations.

Severance Package???

Who was this outfit, why were they severing you, and why did they shell out bukoo bucks for your ATP AND TYPE!?!?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Laid off, and that's just the type of company they are. Not that much money when you consider most corporations have training contracts with FSI, and at the time, all you really needed was a recurrent (plus one extra day) and you could get your ATP and type.

This definitely isn't something unheard of.. something probably not highly talked about... but it's not uncommon for a company to make exceptions and let you do your atp on your check ride. Barring that you have your written done and a reasonable explanation as to why you don't have your ride completed. If you're 135 the ride doesn't cost the company any more money for the ATP ride. In response to the original question, it is something that companies will do, just all in how you approach/tact and definitely make sure you have your written completed. Good Luck!

Most good corporate operations would not hire you without an ATP.
What??????? That's not true at all. Most require you to get it at initial if you dont have it, but to say most good corp operators wont hire you unless you have an ATP is not accurate whatsoever. This is entry level co-pilot of course. Looking for a jet PIC, well, that is a different story, but if the original poster is asking a question like this, then he is not looking for a PIC gig.

Having the ATP will definately aid in landing a corporate job (even if it is only SIC/right seat). You will almost certainly need to be able to obtain it in your "new-hire" training if you don't have it already (due to insurance reasons).

Reality:

Most Fortune XX outfits I know have average new hires of around 5000TT, ATPs, a few type ratings, 4 yr degrees, and some Intl experience.

I dont know any that hire "F/O's" without ATPs unless they can check the minority or female box...

Im sure they are out there, I just have not heard of any.

Here is the Fortune 50 most profitable companies, and their profits in millions.

does anyone know if any of them hire F/O's?

just curious..

um....

yeah!

:)

8, 13, 18, 21, 35, 39

And for the record, be advised:

Fortune XX does not = Good corporate job. Some think it does. Great jobs are found in all size flight departments, irregardless of the company's revenue.

the top 50 .............. wow looks like who's who of the northeast flt dept......now if only one of them would hire me :)

I second what Gulfstream 200 said. Size doesn't necessarily make it "good", but we have only ever made an exception to the experience requirements for minority candidates. Now that we are ISBAO we cannot even do that.

this is by far and wide the dumbest thing i've ever read on flight info. we are all 10 fold dumber by reading it. You are awarded no points. thank you

I don't think it is very common but I was hired by a F500 (120ish at the time) w/ just an ATP written. I received the ATP w/ my CE650 ride. I was somewhat of a local guy, 2000+ hrs, no types but lots of CE500 SIC time, and knew several of the currrent pilots. I would guess this to be an uncommon practice in the industry, though.

It would be easier to get your ATP on a type ride. But if it bothers you not having one, why don't you go to ATP INC for a weekend school? Quick and somewhat cheap.....

Good luck-

Sure Lollie. Why not?

It should only take your husband 3 to 5 years to make Capt. Meantime, you get to eat lots of TopRamen noodles and collect foodstamps while you wait for the ever-generous Regional Airline to dole out an ATP to your hubby. Lots of luck to you both!

Kudos to SCT for making a short-cut into the jets. Hope you didn't wear out too many kneepads along the way. Nuttin' personal. <EG>
