Do they have you call the faa, or do they set you up with a dpe? I am talking initial here. Thanks

dpe

They set you up with a dpe. This was when I went through 3 years ago but have heard its the same by a couple friends last summer.

dpe's....out of Tampa is Garner. Good guy, fair and an easy checkride. Teaches a lot. Blaurer out of Ft Lauderdale is really tough. Likes to yell a lot. Pinkston out of Ft. Lauderdale has been around a while. He's fair but sometimes called "pink slip Pinkston". Lumley (sp?) out of Ft. Lauderdale but do not know much about him. ATP will prepare you for checkride, not necessarily to be a good instructor. Two weeks x 14 hr. days = pain. Just so you know, the instructors are as helpful as bin Laden in a Catholic orphanage. Don't expect a lot from them. Accomodations are marginal at best.

Went in March. ATL is not as tough, but those guys have a higher fail rate. JAX is the better one if you can change. A lot of your knowledge will come by teaching all the lesson plans in front of other CFI canidates. You will learn fast what you need to brush up on as soon as you try to teach.
