The -400 is a 2-man cockpit last time I checked! Unless you fly for China Eastern, then it's all you can cram in there......
 
That's the same for anylong-haul flight in excess of a double digit flight time - incl. ETOPs for B777/767 and A330.
However, these aircraft were not designed to require a FE or a PFE. The relief pilot is usually, but not always, another type-rated FO.

Thanks, already done that & got the basics. Just looking for a gouge from a line pilot's perspective. Anyone?

Do the 400's require FE's? Why no they don't!



P.S. If you're interested in flying 747's long haul freight, consider applying to Kalitta. They will be running as many classes as they possibly can all this year, both upgrades and new hires.
