I recently read an article that stated that one of the above mentioned might be for sale, can't remember which one. It said that it might be for sale to another all cargo airline. Sorry I didn't save the story, I will try to find it. Any ideas?
I read a quote from the same article. Original article was in "Cargo Facts Update" which requires a subscription. The reprint implied Atlas holdings was shopping both Atlas and Polar but that could just be a misquote. On another board I saw a response on this subject that Polar has been for sale from day one.
This should be interesting. Atlas or Polar guys correct me but if I recall the slots at Narita are Polar's and Polar's only. I am not sure of the China slots, though I believe either is doing them.
     This is a new one!!!!!!!!! After the BS rumor, for years and years, of UPS buying Polar. Please forgive the skepticism. If anyone finds that article, PLEASE POST IT, or else this is going to end up being a very short thread.
There is a new rumor about someone buying Polar at least every other month. The last two I have heard are ASTAR and United (ugh).
To answer your question, yes, it is Polar that has the route authority to HKG, Narita, Shanghai, Bejing, etc. Atlas is only an ACMI carrier like Southern or Focus. In fact, a good portion of Atlas' flying is ACMI work for Polar believe it or not.
I doubt Atlas Worldwide Holdings will sell Polar, because not only will they lose all the route authorities that Polar has, they will lose a significant amount of ACMI flying. Just ask an Atlas guy how often he operates Polar flights. So when you hear "Polar" on the radio, don't be suprised if the plane's tail has a naked guy holding a beach ball on his back.
