Received a call the other day from Atlas. They said they are gearing up to start hiring again in a month or so for both Atlas and Polar and will merge the two in a year or so. I interviewed and was offered a class this summer with Atlas which was subsequently canceled and push off until the beginning of the year. Well, here it is. Now I'm at a loss as what to do as I'm currently gaining quality PIC time in a large regional jet and thinking about going corporate, need to fly past 60 now with all my setbacks. Would appreciated some unbiased info on life at both airlines. For example: how long are you away from "home" before returning, how goes the commute to Stanstead, can you break guarantee, which model would be more beneficial to a future life outside of Atlas/Polar should it come to that - the 200 or 400, etc, etc, etc.? I would appreciate any and all honest info. PM me if that would be a better avenue of info dissemination.

Thanks to all in advance.

Sorry I can give any info....but can I ask a question?

Would a lower time guy have a better chance if he was willing to live in Stanstead?

Hi!

Go to aptap.org for info on Atlas/Polar.

Gregg C. Dunham flies for Atlas, and can give U a lot of info.

U can search under his postings for info, or PM him.

If you want to fly past 60, you can do it at Atlas, but side-ways on the panel. We have several over 60 PFE's.

You can plan on being away from home 17 days out of the month. Add two more to that for the commute to and from STN, if you don't want to live there.

is it 17 days in a row or is it broken up. what kind of trips are available and how long until you can bid out of stanstead. thanks.

Before I left for military leave, I would bid all of my days off together. I didn't have trip prferences, so whatever they did with me while I was out was OK with me, as long as I had my days off together. It worked out well except for one month. I got my days split, with JFK reserve in between. I thought it looked pretty sh***y until I called crew sched. and asked if I could do my reserve at home. Yep, I was home for 18 days in a row and still went over 80 hours. On top of that, I made extra cash with the Guard. It pays off to be a good boy when talking to crew sched. and willing to fly your a** off when you are at work.

As far as STN, I don't know how that is working out. I'm based there, but I have never been there. I did get an email that the MEC is looking at another base realignment, but there is no word what that will be. If I was taking bets, I'd bet on ANC.
