I highly recommend RICHARD KAUFFMAN, 4199 PACES FERRY ROAD NORTHWEST SUITE A, ATLANTA GA 30339-3705
(770) 436-2444 . He is in the Vinings area. No appointment necessary, and you are usually out in less than 30 mins. Quick and easy. Plus, he takes most insurance plans, and bill it as a "routine physical", so you only pay the co-pay. My medicals there only cost $10.

I went to Kauffman many years ago. He is easy to see, just walk in, and pleasant during the physical. Plus, he's a pilot himself, which is nice. After my third or fourth exam with him the rate had shot up from around 75 to about 140. After that I said no thanks. If insurance pays for it, then great. If not, call first to confirm the rate.

I used Stephen Leonard once, found him to be real good. He's a pilot too, I think he owns a Marcetti (sp) He used to be down next to Lenox Mall, but I have heard he has since moved into Vinings.

Sorry, my info is kinda dated....

I will agree with this. Without insurance, his rates are kind of steep, but I haven't talked to anyone who has gone there lately that didn't use their insurance (CIGNA, AETNA, etc.). I know he participates in most plans, and will submit it for you. You just pay the co-pay. However, without the insurance, it might be best to look elsewhere, since with an EKG, the cost can approach $175.

But, he is a great guy, and a quick and easy exam. Plus, with insurance plans that he participates in, it is very inexpensive. I suggest calling first to confirm whether or not he participates in your plan.

Dr. Kauffman did my first medical ever. Nice guy. I remember him wishing me luck on my private licenses.

Got the Best recommendation right here :

Dick Harper, Aeromed, Inc. Retired medical director UAL...all he does is pilot physicals. Has been a pilot doc all his life...well known in aeromed and FAA circles...great guy. Plus, you don't sit in his waiting room all day waiting for him to tend to all those pesky sick people before he gets to YOU. But, seriously, he really knows the FAA and you don't have to worry about any paperwork mistakes screwing you over. I've been going to him for years and hope he never retires completely.

Call and leave a message on his answering machine if he's not in...he's very good about returning calls. 770-457-3532, I-285 @ Buford Hwy.

...and another thing...when you're young you probably only need "cheap and easy". As time marches on, your risk of something disqualifying happening increases. At this point, you want an AME who knows what the he!! he's doing in dealing with the FAA. The typical, busy GP who's too busy to stay up on how to handle poisonous snakes ( the FAA ) may not be your best advocate and can cause you a lot of trouble. Go with the old pro and come out ahead in the long run. It'll be the best money you ever spent.

The ALPA aeromed people are very good but they're far, far away. You need a local advocate.
