It is digital ATIS.

Yah...where that annoying "man voice" gets stuck

"...Altimiter Two Niner Niner Zero ILS Runway One Zero Right Approach In Use Departing..................................................................................................................................................................Runway One Zero Left Advise Controller On Initial Contact You Have Information Foxtwot"

Funny shtuff sometimes...

If you call the number for ORD's ATIS, the "man voice" CONSTANTLY gets stuck at "Bird Activity In The Vicinity Of The............................Airport..."

Must be nice to just print it out...but listening to it is a biotch!

Why do we need to know it's digital? We were having this discussion the other day in the cockpit and only answer we could come up with is "who cares?"

Perhaps it's so that you aren't startled by the Stephen Hawking voice that comes over the frequency when it is a digital ATIS. Of course, even knowing it was a digital ATIS didn't prepare me for that weird voice the first couple of times.

Digital Atis can be received via ACARS. Normal atis, at least in the ACARS system I use, cannot.

Stupid podunk airports make me tune and listen to the ATIS. I make sure I am PF on those legs. Just kidding.

At BWI it almost sounds like he (digital voice) is catching his breath. Like the kid in the wheel chair from Malcom in the Middle.

That makes sense, thanks!

I'm just holding out for them to invent an on-demand ATIS, where when I dial it up it's ready to go. I don't pick it up halfway through, and then when I miss something on the next go around I don't have to sit through another half hour of NOTAMS and notices. That'll be cool...
