Is it true you can take the ATSAT test and then get selected to attend the accademy for free? I read this in maxim while flying in moderate turbulence and decided it was worth looking into. If it is true, where can I get to take the ATSAT test at?
Unless you're one of the lucky few who are selected to take the ATSAT via job fairs (which aren't held often), you'd have to go back to school for the CTI degree. I graduated ERAU with a BSAS, and transferred enough credits into Mt. SAC to be able to graduate in a single semester. It did mean a move to LA, though.
Good luck with everything if you decide to go for it. I'll tell you one thing though, with the FAA's pay cut and strongarm management techniques, there's one more opening for someone willing to put up with it. God knows I'm telling them to take a hike.
The paycut is only a mild nuisance to me. What's really getting to me is the strong arm management techniques. They can F themselves over that.
What will really kill the profession is when they rid of the pension. It is nearly impossible to maintain a high quality of life and save for a pension making $70k over a thirty year career. What the pilots keep forgetting is that they have a life after 60. We don't.
