ATC-810 Multi simulator question

I have the opportunity to purchase an 810 in perfect condition. I hear this sim be used for 135-121 training and would this be a good prep simulator for checkrides for candidates? I would price it out really cheap. Has anyone on this board used one for interview prep, or general recurrency?

I "flew" one for several "flights" about twelve years ago and used it to train a client for an airline interview. It was just like any other sim; it replicates a panel well but you still don't fly it in the same sense as you do an airplane. The one I used was terribly unstable, more so than other sims, even without dialing-in turbulence and winds.

Why not buy it if you can afford it? Don't forget, it may need maintenance from time to time and that could set you back.
 
Skywest used to use a ratty old ATC-810 in the interview process. They're the only airline I'm aware of that uses one...and it wasn't for training. Only for flight screening during an interview. There may be others.

In order to provide interview prep, you really need to have been through that interview, and have specific profiles and information to help an applicant prepare for and pass the interview...as well as instrument and teaching experience.

Probably the best training opportunity for the simulator would be to associate with a local college or flight school and provide the opportunity for lower cost ground flight training device (FTD) instruction.
 
Scenic had (maybe still does have) an ATC-820, the two-seat version of the -810 that they rented out when they weren't using it for interviews. Any company pilot could use it for free. They added some extra weight to the controls to give it a heavier feel, but I don't remember it flying much differently from any other ATC sim I've used.
