Going into SLC yesterday and our flaps froze in the up position. I was able to get the slats down but no flaps. Touched down at 145kts. This is the second time I've had this happen. I remember FSI saying this was the only problem area with the plane but "it almost never happens". We put the plane in the hangar for an hour and everything was back to normal. Anyone else have this happen? We called Gulfstream but they were no help.

Flaps

OK, after your aircraft was in a hangar for an hour, then the flaps worked? Did you run the flaps and slats together? These are on a 150 amp current limiter, are they not.

I am surprised that Gulfstream doesn't have a scenario for you to ponder. Try them again.

Good luck,

CC

Who did you contact at Gulfstream? I think that you were not talking to the correct person. You need to contact Ray Nagstead. He has been with the Astra since day one. PM me and I will give you his number.

Did the flaps reset when you were on the ground? If they did, you might want to do a health check on your flap accuators. This would entail removing the flaps and freezing the accuators to -45C. If your accuators are freezing up this would explain your flap failure. It would also explain why it happened twice. You might have some water in your accuators or a busted seal. The system is great. It is the accuators that suck S%#t. They have multiple seals and are made with dis-similar grease that freezes if they are mixed due to bad seals. The Gulfstream fix will be avial by the end of 2003

I hope that this helps.

I know this because it happened top me, but only in my slats. The only problem was I had and old FFCU in an SP and the slat PDU burned up ...... twice!!!!
