Found this on the ALPA website:

2. Unsubstantiated Stowaway Incident on Cargo Aircraft:
The MEC has had an unsubstantiated report of a stowaway incident that occurred on an aircraft from the Dominican Republic to Miami. The aircraft was a Capital Air Cargo B-727 wet leased for ASTAR Air Cargo(formerly DHL). The three stowaways were discovered at the Miami ramp and, after being discovered, attempted to flee and were taken into custody by the Miami Dade Airport Police.

The stowaways were on a flat metal pallet covered by a tarp, and a large blade-type weapon was found in their possession. One of the stowaways was an airport employee from the Santa Domingo Airport with the corresponding identification. Further reports indicate that two other individuals in the Dominican Republic have been arrested as possible accomplices in this incident.

This report should highlight the need for every cargo aircraft to have an intrusion-resistant cockpit door. This is not the case at FedEx as the narrowbody fleet does not have IRCDs installed, nor
are there any plans to install them.

Additionally, there have been reports of lobbying in the
cargo industry that B-727s not be included in the FFDO program, as they are not at risk. This report shows that to not be the case.

more security

once again overkill... there is no need for a better door... we never know whats in the back . a guy tring to escape a third workd country is a problem. but not my bigggest concern.

Refugees: not a big concern

Yeah, I agree, some poor slob trying to make a better life for himself is not exactly a reason to freak out.

But...

Desperate people do desperate things. And these occurances of people shipping themselves or stowing away only serve to dramatically underline the failings of airline security.

Now, that wouldn't be so bad if 'airline security' was cheap and carefree--but it's not either of those things.

I say, if they can't do the job (provide security) then to hell with them. Let's save some money and get some efficiency back into to the system.

Why should we have to pay for and put up with all the hassle when it doesn't work anyway. I'll take my chances on that big jet airplane....apologies to Zep fans.

Surely your average Joe Sixpack on Southwest sees it the same way. And if he doesn't, to hell with him too.
