Did anyone from ASA heard anything new about when the newhire classes will be?
It's just that the water here in the pool is getting kinda cold...;)
 
I would really like to know about this too. Is ASA still waiting for contract negotiations to work out or is the attrition going to get us a class in March?

Used to be around 70 including myself after they stopped hiring...I'm sure by now a bunch of guys have moved somewhere else. How old are u reportcanoa if I may?

Im not your buddy. I have spent the last 3 years of my life pinching pennies to pay my bills as a pilot...thus the name. So you can kiss my a$$. I want to know if/when there will be new hire classes...nothing else. keep your tears to yourself.
 
About 2 weeks ago I had an intern fly on my jumpseat. He said that straight from Dan Robertson (head of hiring) there would be classes in March. Granted this is second hand information.

I have another source who spoke with Walt Reichard (IP). He said that there was to be a meeting about this Thursday or Friday of this week (2/16, 2/17) and there may even be a class end of February. This is all second hand info but its what I have heard. Hope it helps I know how much waiting in the pool sucks.
 
Thanks a lot for the infos.... it sure does help. It means, I'd better start working on those numbers and that FMS software thing that I have.

Reportcanoa : See...! that's how you do it. If you heard something and willing to share your information then you post it. Otherwise, just keep reading or create a new thread... (no offense, just teasing...;). BTW, do you enjoy having your own bathroom?)
 
I personally spoke to Danny Robertson in the GO two weeks ago and he told me no newhire classes until June or when the contract is settled.

Skywest rightfully doesn't want to invest in growing an airline that may not exist in three months.
 
You really think ASA is going to just disappear? Anyone else feel that way? If so, why do you feel that way?

Because we are about to vote to strike. Check out the ASA strike vote thread... lots of yesses there. If we strike, it's bye-bye ASA.
 
Wouldn't that mean that you will lose your job and you'll be on the streets? I always find this part curious. It's kind of like biting the hand that feeds you to me. Forgive my ignorance on this dynamic. It's intriguing to me to learn more.

Yes. But we are so frustrated and so fed up with the way this company treats us, that we don't care. We don't want to work here anymore if they won't compensate us fairly. That's what a strike means. You are deciding that it's so bad, you don't want the job anymore.

While there are always those who will come out and say we millitent SOBs are the minority, a VERY wide majority of ASA pilots have told our MEC that they are willing and ready to strike.
 
The problem is, management is inept. They have no idea how to run a good show, much less a consistent one. There are many good people at ASA, but the leadership cannot guide them effectively. Pilots are the only ones held accountable for anything, and they wonder why we want heads to roll. My schedule and life has become dirt lately, all thanks to Willy and whomever put him there in the first place.

Nothing has changed with the way I fly, just the way the monkeys at the GO are manipulated into manipulating pilots. There is no recourse here, just a downhill slide that may eventually destroy this place. Morale is so low, you can't see it anymore. Thanks to an unusually focused pilot-hating management team that has been mostly replaced- but the damage has been done. I'm sure a "brick" program, ACARS, or anyhting else positive aside from signing a good contract will help. This used to be a fun and friendly place to work.

Not to belittle your sentiments toward ASA because I understand where you're coming from. In the years that I worked in the corporate world (not the flying kind), management has always been a problem. They get richer while the workers get crapped on. In my days, I've seen 3 out of the 4 companies that I worked for in the past disappear because of bad management. Even the one that didn't got out of business has poor management. I think poor management is everywhere.

I sympathize with all of you and do think that what the regionals are paying their pilots is a crime, considering the sacrifices that you had to make to get there in addition to the continued sacrifice of being away from home and trying to make ends meet. For someone from the outside looking in, it seems to me that there are pilots that are making a killing, and there are pilots who are struggling to make ends meet. Statistically speaking, the sentiments will average out to 50% either side, and I'm sure ASA management knows this, and is probably the force behind why they took so long to work out something for you folks. Honestly, the complexity of meeting everyone's needs is immense, but not giving you anything for over 3.5 years is just bullshit.

I really truly wish all of you well and hope that you win this battle. It really is time for pilots (or SOMEONE) to say that pilots are not donkeys. Best of luck!
 
Flyforfood, stop scaring the newhire hopefulls. If and when we take a stirke vote, this only authorizes the MEC that when and if the time comes (which is still a long way off) then they will have the ability to open the strike center and pass out the picket signs. A strike vote in itself doesn't mean that the next day thing s grind to a halt. If a strike ballot actually does come out, I will vote yes to support my MEC, but walking street and closing down ASA for a term is another story.

Back to the original poster, good luck when you get here and I hope a newhire class comes for you soon.

Exactly. ASA used to be a really fun place to work. The majority of the employees are great. The problems all stem from that ugly ass gray building on the northside of the airport. It's pretty much just one big grab for "control" for those buffoons. They really don't know or care how to run an airline, they just want to have it all under their "control." The kind of people who only like an idea if they thought of it. If it wasn't their idea, it's bad, simple as that. A truly sad situation. ASA makes money despite it's management, not because of it. The front line employees see the problems, come up with great solutions and suggest these to management. Management, fearing they'll be seen as weak or incompotent, reject the ideas and the problems not only continue, but grow as those employees who wanted to help get frustated and lose the motivation to try anymore. This is why most front line employees were so psyched when Skywest bought us. They were drooling over the idea of ASA's management getting the boot! Finally some accountability over at the GO! Finally we can think proactively instead of reactively (or even regressively)! Thankfully there has been some change, but these cavities are buried deep. It's going to take a full-on root canal to get all the decay out of that big gray box.
And there are a lot of pilots (including me) that are willing to shut this place down unless some big changes happen.

Why would you want to work for ASA, Comair, or any regional airline when Netjets is hiring 450 more pilots this year.
Im on year five making 106K base pay ( not counting holiday or overtime).
Free family medical, great 401K, short term, long term, and loss of Med ins. and I only work 14.5 days a month.
Just a heads up.
