There has been very little discussion lately about ASA and so I thought I would celebrate one year anniversary in the pool by starting a new thread!

Asking for any info about hiring, surplus of pilots due to the EMB displacements, numbers of pilots vs. numbers of lines at both ATL and DFW, any information regarding the latest preliminary awards, whether or not there are any new jet deliveries to take place for the remainder of 2003, or not until 2004, contract negotiations this past week, etc, etc,

Basically any info to help us poolies have some idea what is going on!!!!

Thanks for any information!!!

If you are in the pool here, DO NOT COME HERE! Get on at Chatauqua or Skywest. We will probably not hire for another year or more, and there will be absolutely NO GROWTH at ASA! If you go to CHQ, or SKW now you will advance light years faster than ASA. Many insiders at ASA will tell you that we will be the last of the DCI carriers to get any growth. Our performance is utterly horrendous, despite all of the excuses that our management hides behind. Delta will not grow us due to this and many other reasons. Delta has jumped on the contract carrier bandwagon, like United and USAIRWAYs. Even Comair is being hit up for concessions under the threat that they are not CHEAP enough to compete for additional RJ growth. It is simply cheaper to contract out the flying. I can even see another contract carrier brought in before ASA gets any growth. All that and we are in negotiations...so Delta is putting the squeeze on us, while they dangle the cost structure of CHQ, Skywest and even Mesa as reasons we cant get a better contract. So, if 5 or 6 years in the right seat of the worst performing airline in the industry (DOT reporting) are for you....keep holding out. Just watch the releases of who gets the DCI growth for indicators of how much longer it will be. In the meantime, send an app to CHQ or Skywest...

WTF?

That last post appears to resemble the airline industry itself ... everybody gets too excited when things are going well, and then everybody gets overly depressed when things aren't progressing normally.

According to company reports, ASA expects several dozen aircraft deliveries over the next several years. A reasonable person would expect this to translate into some job openings.

Look at your options carefully. My opinion is that ASA presents better stability and prospect than most of the regionals. Seniority doesn't mean a freakin' thing if it's with a weak or troubled company.

As far as the delay issue, this wasn't a surprise, and the company appears to be handling it. The cause of the trouble is likely short turn times and baggage/ramp issues. The short turn times keep our aircraft productive when things are going well, but cause us accumulated delays when things deteriorate. The baggage/ramp issues have already been addressed by our parent company, Delta Air Lines ... they have accepted blame for the bulk of this problem, and are attempting to correct it. Atlanta flows pretty well, but it's not without it's problems ...

I encourage you to figure out the smart move, and persevere.

Best of luck to you ...

If your talking about my post it's called sarcasm. I think ASA will only get better, just slow right now.

Yeah ASA sucks!! My wife and I flew Business Class roundtrip to Ireland last month (for the annual pub crawl!!) and those b*stards at Delta had the nerve to deduct $120.00 for the tax! All kidding aside, ASA will grow. Stay away from carriers in the "fingercuff" position. Best of luck- Wil (missing my fresh Guiness to start the morning!)
