Pilots of ASA, I have a few questions that I would be intrested in having answered about ASA.

What is the junior base for you?
What airplane do they normally put the new hires in?
The reson I am asking is I just got a phone call from the HR department and they were conducting a prescreening and the guy from HR said they will be sending out a background packet for me to fill out. I asume this is a good thing. Any info would be great.

Thanks and adios

Hi -
DFW is the junior base, but also is growing the most. They put you in whatever aircraft they need pilots for that day, but we only have the CR7. CR2 and ATRs now. You'd most likely go into the 50-seat RJ.

Good luck.

>What is the junior base for you?

At this time, DFW seems to be the junior base. It is much easier to hold a hard line there then in ATL. In addition, management has indicated to us that nearly all of next years expansion plans will be out of DFW. That said, commuting to DFW from ATL is very difficult. Mainline planes are full, jumpseats are very busy ... if it wasn't for some very nice folks at Air Trans, we'd have several pilots stranded much more often than they are now.

>What airplane do they normally put the new hires in?

Most new hires will go into the CRJ-200, however, the CRJ-700 has actually gone fairly junior lately. We will receive 15 new CRJ-700's next year, therefore, going directly into the 70-seater is a very real possibility. I'm not really sure how many, if any, of next years new hires will end up in the ATR-72. The E-120's are all gone at this time. The 1st year pay is the same, regardless of equipment.

IMO, ASA is a good company ... very profitable for mainline. We are in contract negotiations right now, so there is the normal amount of turmoil and such.

Good luck with your interview.

Real pilot of ASA-I think?

Easy stuff to answer.
Junior Base is DFW.
No other aircraft there but CRJ's.
New hires will more than likely go to the RJ with very few exceptions. Some (a small amount ) individuals will go to the ATR as ATR guys bid off of the aircraft to the RJ. But not many want to go to DFW into the RJ, and that is were all of the growth is at the moment.
Here is the story in a nut shell. Jullie told me last week that the pool has been, lets say "overhauled". In other words, re filtered. They have gotten rid of anyone that no longer meets new competitive minimums. For the individuals in the pool (I THINK!), if you have been flying (current), you should still be in the pool. For resume' individuals, there is a new competitive minimum, but I have no clue what that is. The key here is if you have been flying and current, meet the (after pool) min's, then you should be OK. If you are getting calls from ASA, you are either still in the pool or in the competitive list. I have been told by recruiting that alot of the pool app's were disgarded due to non competitive profiles or lack of currency. Clear as mud? Thought so! Stay tuned as things will change as the DCI brand protection is negotiated with DALPA. Currently 120 "new hires" next year including poolies. Delta furloughed guys get priority but they have to be limited per month incase of a massive recall as the General has insinuated. I personally saw the Delta furlough stack and it is HUGE! So not all of those guys will get postions. I wish it was different. I would try to take them all! (Hint) Internal LOR's are the key!

Hope that helps.

Tim,

I have to thank you again for helping any of our furloughs. I think guys in the 1060 are seeing that it may be awhile until they do return to mainline and they know that ASA is a good airline with promise. I really hope that we can reciprocate in the future.
(I will do whatever I can on my end) Thanks again.

Bye Bye--General Lee:cool: ;)

If you get a call from HR requesting updated info etc. you better expedite the request or your packet will end up in the trash.

Its what they call the "filtering" process. Thats why the pool started at 100 and is down to 30. Alot of lazy people out there.

"In addition, management has indicated to us that nearly all of next years expansion plans will be out of DFW."

I understand that we will grow in ATL. They will probably add 40 to 60 lines next year, about the same number as DFW will get. Most newhires will end-up in DFW no matter what happens.

I got a call on friday from Brian at ASA and we talked on the phone for about 10 min. He asked mostly stuff on currency faild check rides and so forth. He said that they would be hiring out of the pool soon and would be interviewing to fill classes right after the poolies went to class (I think he mentioned march or may). He didn't say he was sending anything to me, so I hope thats not a bad sign. I am activly flying for a 121 carrier so i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Latest info from a "very good" source. ASA is to start hiring in either March or April, 10 a month for 10 months. They are hiring before the first planes are scheduled to get here, to avoid a huge spike in the summer as not to overload the sim. They are reducing the sims rentals down to two from 4, as they are not needed as much anymore.

I got the call as well. Interview in march or april possible. nothing about having to fill out a packet. He did say that based on my answers i was a candidate to be called for interview.
