It sounds like ASA will not be hiring anytime soon, based on some of the above post. However, I interviewed in Feb and was placed in the pool. I just recieved notice from my former employer (Delta) that ASA had requested my records. I also recently got a notice that my FAA and Drivers Lic. info have been sent to ASA. Does this sound like they are gearing up to start hiring or are they just getting ahead of themselves? I hope to hear from them soon, because I have just been iformed that I will be furloughed from Chautauqua at the end of this mounth. This will be my second furlough in one year.

Looking at the latest awards, looks like there are roughly 75 to 90 Brasila guys yet to be trained. Again, thats just my guess. We have firm orders for 23 jets thru Dec. 2004 as of now, 7 crj200s and 16 crj700s, according to our MEC Chairman's latest hotline. Hope this info helps to give some idea of what's going on. Sorry to hear about your furlough!

Just speculation

not trying to cause problems. not flame bait. Just a possibility.

Is it possible that they are getting things in order to where in the event that aca should loose their contract with UAL, DAL could also dump them and take over the flying? Not trying to say that this is what is happening. Just wondering if it is a possibility.

I'm glad that they are ahead of the game for a change. When I was hired, they were still working on my background check five weeks later and I couldn't start IOE for two extra weeks. I hope you will be starting soon!

Who knows?

I was hired in November, just missed the jan class. They requested my records in May. Let's hope it means something. One thing is for sure we will know approx. 2 1/2 weeks prior to our class date. That seems to be all we can be sure of at this point.

Well?

The RJ training department has been told to expect new hires in the next few months. Additionally, we will be even with the number of A/C and pilot positions in Dec/Jan time frame. In 2004, we get 16 additional 70 seaters which we need a minimum of 160 additional pilots to man the aircraft. They will need to start training sometime in Nov/Dec time frame to be ready for new aircraft deliveries.
I really can't believe that DCI is done with their expansion. I have allready heard rumors that 25 additional 40/50 seaters will be comming in 2004 to ASA. But with just the munimum requirement of aircraft deliveries, we will need additional pilots. I think things will get better here at ASA concerning new hires and hopefully movement for our current pilots.. :)

Monkey

You are pretty smart for a monkey. Even Transtates is joining in the Ual fun. AT 10+, ACAI is the best short out there right now. Company could be completely gone in months. I don't want to see any more pilots lose jobs, but I have done DD on them and there is a really bad situation developing over there. Even if they get UAL flying it probably will just barely pay the bills which does not justify its market cap. DAL is waiting in the cave slobbering all over this opportunity.

I can say I wouldnt hold my breath for a class at ASA anytime soon. There are still MANY EMB120 pilots to be trained, and for Aug. there are 143 FO's for about 115 lines! In Sept. there will be 200 or so FO's, and we have been told not to expect to get the expansion in the fall, so the lines should not increase.

Honestly, there is no way we can expand again in Dallas. I just flew a 4 day where we were late off the gate on 10 of 14 legs, always due to some ramp, or service issue! It is REDICULOUS! It is absolutely worse than Atlanta now. 1 hour to wait for an air cart before we could board. Next time, 1 hour wait for a working GPU, which we were told there is ONE in all of Dallas!!! Twice, cabin service never came to clean the plane. Next, we couldnt get a fuel truck!!! Everyday, the same thing! Why would Delta grow ASA? Until we get our sh!t together, I would get my resume into Chautauqua! You will see them grow much faster.

DFW worse than ATL ? Nope

Hey,

I too work out of DFW for ASA and I can say your experience on the last four day may be true but it is not even close to ATL operations and rampers. I did a four day last week and every leg but two(last two) were ontime departures and early arrivals

I think you should go work for a week with the ramp guys in DFW in the 100+ heat and see how fast you move.

Since April the DFW staff is under staffed, you combine the april growth with close to the same # of people, with the heat, and the typical mechanical problems of both the planes and the external equipment, you end up with alot of tired overworked people.

I think the people in DWF are pretty good with all things considered.

I remind myself it is easy for me complain while I sit in the AC cooled flightdeck, and listen to the guys on the company radio call our DFW ramp people names.

ATL ramp people are much different, it is a culture that I cannot identify with.

ASA probably won't hire till mid 04 when we get the new airplanes,my prediction.

I just wish all the people who hate working at ASA would go ahead a quit. The bad attitudes rub off on too many people.

With all that stated above, there is no doubt that ASA operations does need improvment. Why don't you call Bryan LeBreque our VP of ground ops and voice your concerns.

I'm going to have to agree with Medeco on this one. Dallas is certainly not as smooth as it once was, but it's still light years ahead of ATL. Additionally, it doesn't matter who flies the expansion out of DFW, all the ground station is ASA. So I don't know how it makes a difference if it's flown by CHQ, SKW, CMR. Additionally, I wouldn't bother with a resume to CHQ, they just announced over 60 furloughs.

Medeco....nobody said I hated ASA, or working here! I said our operation is running poorly - FACT- and we are not expecting the fall growth, per the DFW Chief pilots. The reasons for our poor performance are numerouse, and you hit many of the nails right on the head. The fact is, there is a hugh problem with understaffing.....but that doesnt make our passengers, or more precicely...CUSTOMERS any happier about it. There IS a problem. Why should we sweep it under the rug? Comair does not have these problems in CVG, nor Skywest in SLC! Why is it an ASA problem, or an ATL/DFW problem. While I agree that the quality of individual working on the DFW ramp is much higher than ATL ---WE STILL HAVE A PROBLEM! Lets get more equipment, or staff properly! I am tired of hearing the complaints, and hearing people claim they will take their business elsewhere, because we cant get our act together! Waiting an hour for the ONLY WORKING GPU at the DFW airport is nonsence! Having to have people wait at the gate prior to getting off the flight to make their connection because we have noone to park the plane or get carry ons is unacceptable! Lets not pretend it is. I have pride in the company, and would like to think we are striving to be a great regional, rather than last in every DOT category. Lets not make excuses for why things are bad, but try to push to make them better.

Like you, I also do not think we will hire until spring of 2004. We are still at a net loss of aircraft, even with the deliveries for the rest of the year.

Are any of you guys sending this info to the appropriate persons? Simply saying "oh they know about it" doesnt cut it. We need to copy and paste these threads, or send them an "awareness" letter. Youd be surprised how much they dont know.

Understaffed and overworked is easily recognized. So is a culture of laziness. I can overlook alot when I know the rampers are trying. I cannot when its laziness and apathy that are the cause. Never been to ATL so I can't comment on that, but DFW is another story. They need a drastic overhaul of the way the ramp is operated there. Its hot everywhere, every place I know of is understaffed but that is no excuse. Not ASA bashing, I am very impressed by some of your outstations. In ICT a few weeks ago, (ASA station I think) they were nothing short of impressive.

Going with this idea, It's already been established that UOR's don't fix anything. In case you didn't know they end up in a big file cabinet on the GO 7th floor for easy viewing if the Feds want to look at them. They're also typed into a big computer database. After that, who knows what happens. There has to be a more effective way to let mgmt know that the ramp situation in both hubs are in bad shape.

The problems in ATL are so da-n obvious. Its a problem that is intrinsic to the city of Atlanta. No work ethic, no education and no ability to fire anybody.

Comair in ATL

I was just looking at the ASA Website, and saw where DCI is expanding in ATL. ASA gets one additional roundtrip a day to PNS and comair gets 1 or 2 additional roundtrips out of ATL to 4 other ASA destinations, whats up with that ?

Gee,
That sounds a lot like Memphis also.

I dont mean UOR's. We all know where they end up. I meant sending them right to the person at the GO himself. Bryan I think it is??
