Crew sched told me today that according to the new contract, reserves can't get released early anymore.

Is this hogwash? Sounds like they just made it up.

I don't think there was a provision in the old contract for getting released early. I think it was more an unwritten favor that scheduling would do for you. Since the current contract is so new and different I would expect they are going to follow it word for word down to the letter . . at least until all the transitions are done and everyone is familiar with all the rules. Maybe then they'll start releasing people early again.

That's BS... (this is in the TA as I don't have the offical copy yet) section 13.O.2.(b) If he is not given an assignment withing one hour he (the reserve pilot) will be permitted to leave the airport and remain on-call and on duty, though not earning per diem OR BE RELEASED INTO DOMICILE REST PURSUANT TO SECTION 12.D.3

ALWAYS CARRY A COPY OF THE CONTRACT!

edit:
Also reading section 13.O.2.c (release) paragraph 2 basicly says nothing in the section about automatic release will prevent the company from releasing a pilot earlier.

I was told that it was a scheduling SUPERviser that decided this "due to contract implemintation"

Total BS.

Just remember that after 12hrs of short call they cannot call you out that day, you then have 3hr beer in hand reserve. Totaling 15hrs for the day.

Read a little down the page, this is what is written.
c. Release

(1) A short-call reserve pilot without an assignment on his last day of a reserve period prior to a day off will automatically be released the earlierof:

(a) The end of the on-call period, including his telephone contact period,in accordance with paragraph O.2.a.(1), above; or
(b) 2100 on such day local time at the reserve location.

(2) Nothing in paragraph O.2.c.(1), above, will prevent the Company fromreleasing a pilot earlier.

Hello,
Just a little side note, Brad hates reserves, the thought of having to pay a pilot to sit at home drives him into convulsions. On the other hand he loves the concept of reserves having virtually no work rules. Expect scheduling to turn from merely incompetent, to evil and incompetent! He will stretch your "contract" so hard and far it will look like its written on rubber.
Good luck, this is just the beginning of the end of the honeymoon!

If he hates reserves so much, he should ask the monkeys in crew planning why we're gonna have like 55 FOs on the ATR next month for 27 lines.

When the reserves fly once every coupla weeks already....

That sucks. I remember when I upgraded I would get released before my nap reserve even started on the last day to commute back to SHV.

Read the second part about having no work rules. Do not underestimate the power of Uncle Rico!

As FL described them, you're dealing w/ the children over there in scheduling....& it sounds like to me you got the wrong person on the line, they let me go off call early the other night...
