ASA makes more sense than Comair for Skywest

If (big if) Skywest is in the market for one of the Delta carriers, ASA makes more sense in the following way.

The number of pilots at ASA is smaller than at Comair. I think the totals are something like ASA 1500, Comair 1800, Skywest 2000.

If Skywest buys a union carrier, the NMB will stack the two workforces against each other and if one is significantly larger than the other, that union arrangement will prevail. 2000 vs 1500 is clearly a more significant difference than 2000 vs 1800. So ASA is a safer buy for Skywest (assuming there's any purchase being contemplated) than Comair.

That would be interesting. Skywest buys ASA, NMB declares the merged carrier non-union and Skywest imposes what wages it likes on the ASA pilots. All those years of ASA pilot negotiations get flushed down the toilet.

Interesting, no?

I don't think it matters if SkyWest buys ASA or Comair. SkyWest would become union either way. I'd estimate that more than 40% of SkyWest pilots would vote for a union. That's 800/2000. Bring on 1500 ASA pilots, only 951 of them voting for a union would be needed to bring the whole group to 50%+1. If Comair was purchased, only 1101 of their 1800 pilots would need to be for a union. I'm sure SkyWest management knows if they buy either pilot group, the union would happen for sure. As it is, it would be a close call if another union drive were to happen.

Interesting Ideas, However upper Mgmt at Skywest (read Morman types) are very motivated to keep unions off property. To have a union on property would be a sign to your Morman "Brothers" that you cannot manage your business affairs. Bad jujuj in Morman Land. Just more ideas to throw around....

Just trying to fit in...No one else got points off for spelling errors. The point is still valid, as you didn't dis me on dat....Oh, How's life on reserve?

Just curious..... What makes you think that if SkyWest buys either ASA or Comair that they will merge it with SKYW?

They can operate either as a subsidiary and keep SKYW non-union. Then little by little they just move the airplanes from ASA or CMR to SKYW, without the pilots, and furlough until there are none left.

I don't think that strategy would be against their "religion".

One thing you have to realize! They could try and disband the Union all they wanted, but nothing says we have to fly the airplanes anymore. Kind of a poor investment to have all those airplanes and no pilots to fly them.

I wouldn't know, I'm not.

If what I read on here is true, then George W. himself must be LDS.
I see plenty on here that talks about him busting unions etc.
I'm not really sure what someone's religion has to do with
wanting a union on the property. Take a poll amongst the
CEO's of the Fortune 500 companies and I'd bet money not one
is going to tell you they love unions and did everything they
could to organize their work force. I'm curious why Delta
only has representation with their pilots and dispatchers?

Dude,

You are confusing Mormon with Moron! Glad I could clear that up!:D

Skywest would be stupid to take on a union carrier unless they are willing to accept a union carrier. Delta is just playing games. Delta won't sell. If they do, then they are completely stupid.

Single transportation system dude... The NMB would find that they're in substantially the same business, especially since Skywest and ASA/Comair both fly for Delta.

By that logic Comair and ASA should be merged already. We ARE the same business!
