I saw a CRJ today in MSP with an ASA tail. I didn't know they flew in there. But the guy I was flying with swears to god it had a Comair callsign.

I may be out of the loop, but did Comair get old ASA planes or is ASA flying to MSP now? Either way it is kind of a mindscrew.

LOL... :D

Thanks. I didn't think that was the case and I told the other guy I think he was smoking crack but then again Delta's done some weird shizit.

DFW to MSP, huh? Pinnacle flies MSP to AUS, Comair and ACA all over the place... Really makes you wonder how they can keep calling these "regional" airlines. Oh, that's so they can pay us all less. That's right.

call sign

As far as your buddy swearing he heard "Comair". ASA's callsign is "Candler", many a time ATC has switched 'um and/or you just plain mis-hear the two.

Sometimes ATC confuses the two. On our release, ASA is listed as CAA for ATC, and I think it is easy to think it is for Comair, not ASA at first glance.

Makes you miss "Acee" (however you spell it! ;) )

ASA's callsign used to be 'Asea'...(Atlantic SouthEast Airlines). Not too long ago I learned of the significance of the name 'Candler' but I've always wondered why the callsign was changed. Did 'Asea' sound too much like another callsign, or was it merely to honor Candler?
Cheers

There was a military unit out in the southwest that used the callsign "ACEY" and when ASA started moving out west, the two started to mingle over the radio. Obviously the military got to keep their callsign.

No offense to the pilots, but any airline's E or CRJ flight lasting 2+ hours (recently on ASA from NC to DFW...2+40) should have the callsign "Thrombosis".

No offense should be taken. Because if you think that's bad, try 2+ hours on a turboshaker.

That should have the call sign "Punishment."

I think that is coming with our new contract, The Bob and Doug MacKenzie TA.

If it's the "Bob and Doug MacKenzie TA", don't you mean "gloves and TOUQUE"? (wording is important, otherwise you might wind up with propeller-beanies that let your ears get frostbitten) And don't forget to ask for "seven packs of smokes" and "six-pack of Tuborg" either. Now THAT'S something I'd strike for!
