Just some inside info

ASA is going to start a new hire class of 10 pilots in Febuary. ASA intends to have 1 class a month of 10 oilots for the rest of the year. The total will 100 pilots hired in 2004 as of right now.

My understanding is that some of those in the "pool" may have had certain parts of their background check expire. If you are in any sort of ASA pool, I would check your status.

I also understand that they are looking at applications but competitive minimums have gotten so high that manyof us could not get jobs at ASA. 6,000 hours part 121 time was mentioned, but I don't know if it was a serious number, or a joke.

There are some new FAA paperwork requirements that were asked of us. Also, we had to do new PRIA forms. Because there is a "100 hours of flying time in last 6 months" requirement, several questions were posed to us regarding our employment since being hired a year ago. Lots of emphasis on whether the flying was Part 121. Any new medicals were submitted. There was no mention of it being a "reapplication" just an update.
HOwever, the paperwork was similar to the initial application.

Thanks for the info. I have heard similar things and are hoping nothing happens to change their minds. But until the day I am hired, it won't be official!!

From the pool intially or at least until it gets small enough for them to start interviewing again. My best buddy is in the pool and he recieved a call 2 weeks ago asking him if he has been flying and if anything has changed including his desire to work for ASA.

Pool of active/qualified applicants is down sharply.

The pool will be drained very quickly and then there will be positions for new applicants.

That must be for the new Canadair Space Shuttle you guys are getting..... does anyone at ASA have 6000 hours?

does anyone at ASA have 6000 hours?

That's actually kind of funny. But let's see...next year we'll have our 25th anniversary, so yeah, we do. We don't get too many low-time new-hires anymore it seems. Almost everyone I've flown with in the past year had prior 121/135 experience. Actually that was one of Skip/Drew's biggest items, the increased cost of pilot pay because of the relative longetivity of our pilot group. We've got a lot of people who have been around.

How can you say all the 45 new aircraft are coming to ASA? I have an inside source at DCI who tells me that it really is up for grabs. ASA is bidding for the aircraft but more than likely we will get some. Not sure how many and when is to be decided.

I've flown with 3 FOs in the past few months who were in either the last or 2nd to last class we hired.

Low time guy was former ASA, furloughed Delta, back to ASA, way over 6k

We have plenty of FOs here with over 6k

Ok......I was just kidding about that. 6K is a little excessive for a new-hire. I'm my opinion. But hey, in.... let's see, 4 years or so I can apply.

Don't worry, you won't need 6000 hours to get on with ASA. However, I'd say 3000+ total with some 121/135, and a internal rec would help. Good luck!

Regarding the 6,000 hr joke, in my new hire class here at ASA (10/21/02) the AVERAGE time was 5,300 hrs. And that time was slewed down because of 3-4 1,500 hr pilots in the class. Before anyone jumps at me, I am very happy we hired the lower time guys also, just that the market is flooded with VERY experienced pilots. I can't tell you how many ex-TWA (Thank you AA ) are asking me to write them a letter of recomendation. For your info, most of them are in the 8-12k hr range with 4-8 years of 121 time.

Ouch!!! that sounds like a tough nut to crack. I'll keep sending my resume every 100 hours though, from now on. I am very persistant, 3k and counting.......
