Is this a good time for an FO to switch over to the 70 from the 50?

With the industry swinging more towards larger equipment and trying to curb fuel expenses, I can't see the 50 being a good place to be in the next few years. I am just speculating and asking for opinions because I am curious. Humor me.

How does the QOL and reserve times look over there?

It won't make a difference which equipment you're on as it relates to the industry. If ASA were to lose half their flying, and subsequantly, that percentage of their 50's, you woulnd't be safe because you're on the 70, you'd be safe if you were half way up the senioroty list.

I agree with Smack

You may be trying to prevent being stuck on the 200 kinda like the ATR FO's were and are as they retire the ATR and dont want any more training cost.

That being said, it will be a long time before the 200 goes by the wayside. Even if they announce a reduction of the fleet to begin tomorrow, you either have the seniority to survive and bid off, or you dont.

The 700 is so much easier to fly and the training involved is pretty simple and straight forward. Its an "old man's" airplane with the automation.

Disclaimer: the 700 is easier until the flare, straight strut vs. trailing link(200).

And it doesn't have a Takeoff AD............

Actually 2 levers. You push them forward, and the clouds go below you. It's pretty cool........

hahahahahahahahaha the gold ole 70. transfer over to the 70 if you wish, you will just sit reserve much longer and with these new 4 GDO and 2 GDO crap they have goin on for schedualing its pretty SH?tty cause you cant figure out your days off the weeks you dont have GDO's. No idea what people were thinking when they requested 4 GDOs instead of the usuall 3 and 3. 50 has cooler Capt too not so old

its tough to make every reserve pilot happy. A few of those commuters wanted 4 gdo's off in a row. others wanted 3 and 3...so the union left it to the company to decide monthly.

I think this has been pointed out, but you do understand that your company seniority is what really matters, right? If you were number one on the 50 when it went away, and were displaced to the 70, you wouldn't necessarily start at the bottom of the 70 list. Put another way, however, when the ATRs go away, the ATR FOs that are more senior to you will still be more senior to you if they are awarded the 50. This could be somewhat confusing, and, I dunno if I'm helping...

FWIW, I think that all the FOs should get comfortable in their respective seats. I hope I'm wrong on this, but I don't see a lot of movement for a while. I suspect its going to be very similar to the ASA of 2 or more years ago with regards to movement. As well, I've already heard of FOs leaving the company to pursue other interests, resulting in seniority list stagnation where your relative seniority could very well move in a negative direction.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I started in august last year and already have seen people from my class moving over to the 70. I just thought I would ask. Thanks again. It is good to know that I can count on the forum for information ... btw.

MESA SUCKS!

Anybody know the hire date or senority of the first line holder on the 70?
