So the company is complaining that Delta and UniCal are putting the squeeze on DH'ing our crews around positive space. Sure they get us where we need to go to get us to cover a flight but when it comes time to get us back to our domicile or ALT DH for commuters we are told, Sorry you're on the standby list and we can't approve that ALT to DH because we might need you later.

TFAYD!

The deadheading increased so much that it put a strain on the chronically overbooked routes such as ORD-IAD, DTW-ATL, MEM-ATL. Notice though that the problem is always back to domicile at the end of a trip, and not to start a trip or mid trip. There is a reason for it, and the mainline partners are enforcing there policies. However, there has been no breach of the ASA pilot contract. Read the actual deadhead language.

I have read the language. Admittedly the language for ALT to DH is weak <insert my shocked face here>. But to not positive space crews home is a blatant violation of language we do have in the contract.

Although it may appear semantic, do you understand what a positive space booking is? A positive space does not imply "must ride" status, and our mainline partners understand this a lot better than we do. They're not going to remove a paying passenger who already has a seat assignment to get you to domicile. Now, they will get you on ahead of every confirmed passenger who does not have a seat assignment yet. The contract does not specify must ride status back to base.

Mainline is screwing themselves. They already overbook flights, and now all regional airlines are DHing crews at an all time high because mainline in intent on not having a single carrier dominate each domicile.

The main problem is that the company is not booking the seats until the last possible minute. They seem to be taking the "wait and see if they're running on time" approach. This creates the inability to get confirmed seats because there are none for sale. It simply is NOT acceptable in most cases. The moment the company knows that a dead head is part of a trip, they need to book it RIGHT THEN. I've watched my own deadhead bookings and you can too. Pick out a trip with a deadhead on it later this month and monitor your travelnet or skynet page to see when it actually shows up as a listing for you. I've found that it is NEVER greater than 3 days out. It usually shows up inside of 48 hours. So naturally, many times the flight is over sold. Voila !! You're on the standby list right after the HK's and just before the Non Revs.

I think a little public press would be warranted. "Super Regional strands its pilots hundreds of miles from home at the end of their trips".

Just sayin...

Sorry, but why should they? We don't work for Delta.

Really? We're all witnessing the results of their not caring. One Level of Service? right.

So what happens if you're stranded away from base on the last day, and your contractual duty day runs out?

You get a replacement day. They DH you back the next day and can use you up to 3 legs. Not sure the difference between reserves and line holders with regard to the 3 leg thing, I've heard different stories. I had a cancel recently that stranded me into a GDO. The scheduler said I wouldn't have to do anything the following day when I returned and was subsequently released when I got back.

Yup, I have a DHD today, in T-8 hours and I still am not booked PS on TravelNet. Gotta love our Reactive, not Proactive approach to scheduling.

Who cares, just show up to the airport and if you are not listed wait till the flight is almost done boarding then call.

That is there job to worry about, not yours !! Just relax and laugh when they are scrambling after you miss the flight.

Yeah, the biggest problem is freedom leg DHDs. I doubt scheduling scrambles if you miss that flight. Hard to relax when your time is being wasted by their incompetence.
