To add to the SKywest/ASA rumor, how about the fact that Comair just announced a new Base at JFK and the fact the Virgin America will be headquartered in NYC........just throwing it out there......how about a whole Virgin America/ Skywest, asa, comair thing.......now that would be interesting.......Skywest buys asa/comair and has a nice new deal with Virgin for country wide service.....all three skywest/asa/comair could do it....

Why would Virgin want a regional feed? Or are you thinking that they might go for a FLYI business plan? I thought Virgin America was going to be a point to point low cost carrier. Virgin Blue in Aus does not use a regional feed.

Virgin can't do US domestic without a majority US shareholder. ASA/CMR/SKYW would be a great start to connecting the US with Virgin's International stuff. Airbus's are cheap too...we could be flying those pretty quickly...;)

I heard Branson plans to use a combined ASA/Comair/SkyWest as the regional feeder for Virgin Galactic.

Think about it, 1 stop bookings from DSM or MCN to low earth orbit. It's the future, I'm telling ya.

And all ramp tugs will be replaced by Volvo XC90s. They're already filming next years Super Bowl ad, XC90 pushing a VirginGalactic Connection CRJ back from the gate.

SkyWest plus ASA or COMAIR does nothing to eliminate the non-permitted type aircraft language found in DALPA contract.

If DAL is hard up for the sale then maybe an Okay from the DALPAers will be a condition of the sale.

Splert

The DALPA contract has only begun to be taken apart. I would be surprised if the 50 seat restriction survived much longer.

Personally I like the Virgin Galactic angle!

Why buy ASA or COMAIR if SkyWest doesn't want to provide more feed to mother DAL? Don't need COMAIR/ASA to fly more 50 and 70 seat aircraft and without a code share agreement what the heck is the point of flying more CRJ 50 and 70 seat aircraft?

Scope and non-permitted clauses are two different items and a pair of big 'ifs' to be spending millions on.

Any deal to bail out DAL and to BUY growth with all the headaches that WILL accompany a purchase would only be worthwhile with the blessing of DALPAers and hence relief from the non-permitted type aircraft clause.

Otherwise buy the remnants in a year or two and save millions. What would be the internal rate of return by just waiting it out and purchasing the remnants at fire sale prices?

IMHO

IMO, SkyWest isn't really in the market at either ASA or Comair due to their higher operating costs. But in my experience, SkyWest doesn't really rule out anything as a possibility, so you never know. What I do know is that mergers between airlines are ugly business, and I think that's another thing that's on top of the things management at SkyWest has to consider.

It's possible that SkyWest could purchase ASA, and operate as a completely seperate entity. This would alleviate merging #'s and would keep our route system and contract (such as it is) intact. Just a thought.

I have to admit, I don't really see SKYW purchasing as dysfunctional family as ASA.

How is it that ASA is so dysfunctional, any more so than any other Regional Airline?? Please do explain....

Comair has the lowest CASM of any of the regionals, ASA the 2nd lowest.

ASA/Comair CASM is artificially lowered because of the umbrella that mother Delta provides. Once seperated this cost would be much higher.

trip is correct!

This is why I cant see Delta wanting to sell. It would be just one more increase in costs that Big D would incur.
