Understanding that we are in the middle of contract issues I just wanted some feedback from ASA pilots and Skywest piilots in regards to outstation bases. Seen skywest utilizes the outstation bases for their crews. This allows crews first off have a multitude of places to live. Which in turn keeps people happy or at least a better chance of it. It also allows the company in my opinion not to have all the crews or aircraft stuck in place when a storm is passing. For the life of me -put the contract problem aside for a minute I think Skywest/ASA management and crews should look at this. Personally I hate everything about ATL, just not my type of a place the alternative is LAX. Just seems to me a smaller ATL base would help the company because it is less stress for all. Also does anyone truely know why SKYWEST picks and chooses it pilot domiciles it does? Noticed you guys have places like FAT. I think it is great just wondered what criteria they used in thier logic?

What criteria in their logic? ASA does not understand logic!

If you think out bases are a good idea, then look to Air Midwest (MESA). Most are not exactly the most desirable places to live.

I've been outbased. Most pilots outbased end up commuting anyhow, because most outbases are podunk and you don't want to move you and your family, so you end up commuting with few options. If ASA outbased, it'd more likely be places like Macon, Valdosta, Albany, Kinston, Peoria, Omaha, Grand Rapids, Scranton, etc. Less likely to be desirable places like large cities.

Any new ASA bases have a predicted half-life measured in weeks.

We Outbase.. Woohoo,, Sign Me Up

Pardon the possibly dumb question, but aren't the SkyWest outstation bases for their United flying? How many Delta bases do they have?

This is true, the only base we fly Delta codeshare from is SLC. A lot of the United side bases are small and are all or mostly local trips, like SBP and SBA, or are reserve-only like SFO and LAX. PSP was inherited from our acquisition of Sunair way back when. FAT is the main EMB maintenance base, along with SLC.

"The only base we fly Delta codeshare from is SLC"??????? That's funny, seems like we've been doing it out of PSP for years!

BH has talked about this as an option he is pursuing. We'll see if they manage to work it out. So far, I'm fairly pleased with how BH has worked towards actual solutions instead blaming the pilots for issues.

I'm so glad everyone checks the date on threads before they post.
Geez, if they DID check prior to, they'd look, well, smart.
