ASA 705's

Ok I visited the line for my monthly flying and heard from multiple pilots that 20 705's are coming to ASA. Here are the variations.

1. "I had two training department guys on the jumpseat and both of them said 20 705's were coming"

2. "Talked to a mechanic and he said they were recieving training on the 705"

3. "XYZ who talked to YZX in Montreal who said that he saw 2 705's on the ramp in ASA colors"

Quite frankly I'm disgusted that flight info has yet to pickup on a rumor this solid... I mean honestly there is a thread about Israel conducting 9/11. So I was just hoping someone could possitevly confirm or deny the infamous 705 rumor.

Anyway, if these airplanes do appear they will most likely be flown by Skywest pilots. They, afterall, have one rate for 50-99 seats. ASA has no such rates, and with us being in negotiations I doubt they will take the time to negotiate a fair wage for larger airframes, instead just giving them to SKYW pilots. Welcome to ATL.

Great - good stuff - i love it. That is the absolute truth.

If I was a betting man, I would bet that 705's come in direct proportion to the ATR's leaving. Mr. Atkin said he wanted the transition to be the least disruptive that it could be. Further, furloughing pilots about the time that ALPA finally gets OK'd for a strike vote would be a bad thing. A better thing would be to hold out the carrot for new airframes....

Not really. Completely different airplane, the 705 sports upgraded avionics, a different wing with different winglets, a larger center fuel tank and will only hold 76 passengers. It was designed basically as a longer ranger version of the 700. If SkyWest were to get larger airplanes, they would most probably be the 900 with 74 or 76 seats in them. Jerry has been quoted as saying that that is the airplane that he would like because if need be, you put up to 86 seats in them.

In the ATL crew lounge last week Jerry A. said the 17 700's ASA had on order before they purchased us from Delta have been converted to 705's.

He also said they were coming to ATL but the question was whether ASA pilots would fly them or not.

This was said in reference to questions about us (ASA pilots) taking a 70-seat pay cut so we could be "competitive".

That's funny, there is NOTHING so far to suggest that we will ALLOW any of those for Delta use. I guess you could try them for United, but so far that is a big NO from us, and even JA said "If the DL pilots allow it....." in that article in the SLC paper. I will vote a big NO, and I can bet atleast 51% agree with me here.

I said it before and I'll say it again: I am a 40 yr old virgin when I'm soaking wet while standing in my 767. I basically agree with you. We should be concerned about what jobs are available to us in the future at the mainline carriers. On the other hand, we do need to make the most of our current situations, since who knows how long we will be at the regional level.

It's not really good for the profession as a whole when the mainlines continually shift more flying, and larger airframes, to regionals.

Wrong.

1. Delta mainline has negotiated rates that are lower than the ASA 70 rates for 100 seat flying - (they have not been approved yet, but General is full of excuses why they should be ratified)
2. At Northwest Airlines their MEC Chairman said that the new rates being voted on at NWA are such that pilots there will NEVER see the income and quality of life that they had traditionally thought of as "mainline."
3. ASA had 105 seat jets on the property when I hired in. Regionals are not getting larger aircraft.
4. Mainline pilots are after Regional Aircraft and perfectly willing to underbid Regional Pilots.
