I guess everyone is going to have to stop bashing ASA for poor performance.

And we will be rewarded with an industry leading contract.

So what was the A14? Also... ASAs OT performance ranked 2nd among all "regionals" that were ranked. What about the airlines NOT ranked... like XJ and our 91.4% A14 and our 99.5% completion factor.

Like all rankings... they must be taken in context.

Stop me if I'm wrong...

But A14 is meaningless if you don't make D5.

F'rinstance, you leave ten mins late but arrive on-time, it's still a "late flight". Or so I have been led to believe.

In any case, the chart shown above is only on-time departures, which I assume means D5 if it's from the DOT.

I may have messed it up when I pasted it. I think it was 91.

The DOT measures ontime flights as long as they arrive within 14 min of sked. Hence... A14. I don't think the DOT really cares about ontime departures. But an ontime departure is the true test of an airlines ontime performance IMO. Anyone can have great OT performance if the schedule is padded well enough. NW, XJ and PNCL blocktimes are probably the leanest in the industry (for NW to save big $$$) and are not padded as much as the others.

Getting the passenger to their destination at the time you promised them is probably a little more important. People tend not to care as much about what time they leave as long as you get them to their destination on time. JMO.

If you have an important meeting a 2:00 pm do you want to leave on time to get to the meeting, or get to the meeting by 2:00 pm?

My point is that if everyone is doing their job, the airline shouldn't have to rely on heavy schedule padding to achieve good ontime performance. A little padding is going to be necessary to take into account congestion etc... But when you step back and take a look... if the plane leaves the gate ontime, it ought to arrive ontime. Therefore, a true test of the airlines ontime performance is if the plane leaves ontime, because the ontime arrival should follow.

You guys must not have ACARS?

I can assure you that we do not "pad" the times.

We get paid on top of our 75 hour guarantee if we beat the scheduled block time. Since most of our lines are blocked at 75 or below, nobody is "taking one for the team" to make our numbers look better.

Delta transferred Greg Kennedy from CVG to run the ramp. He really has turned things around. It sure makes life easy.:D

I wouldn't say it was/is Greg Kennedy's doing...........

What would you say it is? I have seen Greg on the ramp numerous times parking airplanes, throwing bags, talking to rampers, etc.....

I don't remember a time in the last three and half years when we had wing walkers at the road with somebody waiting to marshall us in before we even arrive at the gate. I had it happen all last month, never even had to set the parking break.

I am not suggesting he is the second coming or anything, but he seems to be providing some leadership on the ramp.

Good ole' Flight Info, ASA does well at something and gets nothing but crap for it. There must be a hundred reasons why the statistic is incorrect.. who really cares

Good job ASA, keep it up. It's something for all these other companies to strive for.

With management supposedly dragging out the contract negotiations, I'm suprised the ontime ranking isn't dead last.
